re the md-500: one thing i like to do with it is composite patches of trem and chorus, etc. also, using the control or assign functions, you can use the tap switch to bump sounds in for just a moment. you can use the same menus to morph between two sounds using an exp pedal.

that being said, there’s always the md-200 if you like the basic sound and architecture, but need fewer options in a smaller footprint.

i’m not a huge fan of their stuff, but eqd has a stereo flanger that might be useful for some of this.

I think I don't like the architecture, in general. Given how little I use mod effects, I need something a lot simpler. I have thought about maybe replacing it with two smaller multimods. The sounds I definitely need are a thick chorus, some sort of rotary/vibrato, and a phaser. Trem's nice, too. Flange, never use it.

EQD's been a mixed bag for me, I've owned a few, but the only one I've been really happy with is the Avalanche Run, which I keep on my Moog Sub37. The Dispatch Master was a good one, too.

I've tried about 8 or 10 EQD pedals.
For me, I thought they where horrible.
The only one I would have used....maybe....was the Hoof fuzz.

Maybe I'm the problem and not the pedals??

I had the Grand Orbiter phaser, which sounded great, but it seemed to put out some noise even when off. Had the Pitch Bay, it just sounded like ugly crap.

if you don’t dig the architecture, it’s a moot point. unfortunately it has all the stuff you like, plus stuff like ring mods. i like dropping a really tight flanger into the middle of a line using the tap switch as a momentary to activate the effect, which is one of my fave functions on the md-500.

You should definitely hook up with Boss to make some crazy @$$ 500 series demos.
Would be dope as @&$%.

Ah, don't even get me started on ring mods, prob my least favorite effect out of all effects. Kills my ears, too.

interesting.

they can be very annoying, but that’s what the carrier freq is for, so you don’t get super high-endy stuff killing your ears. snd the mix control. a difficult effect to get right, but one that i like quite a bit.

@ugly_bassplayer no one needs me to do a demo vid. my thing is really idiosyncratic and non-comprehensive.

I'd like to revise that comment, as when I was digging through some of the presets in the HS, I was surprised to find Ring Mod on some of them in a way that didn't sound like it. It's just that every experience I've had has been just one that makes the sound too abrasive for me (which is also why a lot of people love it).
