Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Awright, finally putting something out after way too long. This one's the 6 string tuned EADGCF into the board. C4 Synth-MD 500-Nemesis Delay- Meris Polymoon- Eventide H9-Meris Mercury 7.

I've been working on perfecting this particular sound now for quite a while. It's something that I always picture foggy gray hills and mountains like I do when I'm cross country skiing. You know, when there's some snow coming in on some but not all, and the grays are continuously shifting. If you don't know, it's quite inspiring to look at.

I'm really starting to understand how to take a basic synth sound from either the C4 or Enzo or a mellotron sound from the Mel 9, and just process the hell out of it till it sounds like a rich poly textural thing.

Just got to the hotel after the gig and that was a beautiful piece to unwind to. Really enjoyed this! Thanks for sharing it!

I believe that you have. It sounds great! Really digging it.

While I’m here, my wife and I picked up the rental gear for our recording session last night. Then we went to the studio, cleaned (it’s been a minute) and set everything up. It was cool to rearrange the space into a 1-room recording studio. It’s stupidly exciting to have a rack of APIs and Neves just waiting for me (I am of the “great mics pres make good mics sound great” school). Today we get sounds and then go get our 2nd shots. We have through July 4th so it will be unrushed. Which is good in case we lose tomorrow to the vax. In related news, I had to go off my cancer meds for the vax and suddenly have like twice the energy. Which is why I have been up for an hour already.

Thanks, I've been more or less playing it every night until I was happy with where it was. Which was apparently last night. I was shooting for 18 minutes, but damn, it's hard to do with this kind of stuff without starting to get too busy or notey. Originally came up with it on the Miezo but then decided I wanted the higher notes of the EADGCF Bordwell sixer. I went to that upper range as a contrast during the last part.

Hope I don’t bore anyone with this story, but it’s a happy one. ...

This story gives me so much hope! Thanks for sharing.

oh yeah, I really enjoyed that. And I know folks who have zero interest in (or awareness of) Ambient Music who would pay money to have that sort of thing available to listen to -- or not "listen to" per se. Sometimes I wish my massage therapist had access to this thread instead of the Relaxation Channel on Spotify or whatever it is I'm hearing.

well done.

Spent some time tonight building a spreadsheet that converts BPM to milliseconds for delay settings. I set it up so I can do 4/4, triplets, as well as quarter and eighth notes for 5/4 and 7/4. It’s all part of my polyrhythm/polymeter exploration phase.

Nothing says rock and roll quite like a good spreadsheet:)
