I have the Dimension in my MD-500. Nice n' thick.

i had a dimension d back in the day when it was in a two-space rack. nice but subtle effect.

the md-500 version is both smaller and more versatile. the dimension c pedal looks to be closer to the functionality of the big box.

That sounds pretty fair. The fretless with delay and reverb is pretty good for getting lost in time. Back when I had my fretless and PS3 and rv3 I could spend hours in pitch shifted shimmery reverb delay goodness

yeah. he does cool stuff. also has a bari fretless.

tends to be a bit fusion-ish for my taste, but i love that mediterranean vibe.

In other news, I ordered a Norand Mono thanks in part to @dukeorock ’s review. Found a decent deal on a used one. I’m under no illusion that it will be my monosynth solution. I just like the idea that a Buchla Easel and a TB-303 had a baby.

The Octatrack ain’t going anywhere. It’s the last piece of hardware I’d sell. I did several jams using the Norand as the only sound source. But all those individual Norand sequences were sampled and further sequenced via the Octatrack. The missing link is live looping. Octatrack is amazing at live sampling, but I don’t enjoy live looping on it. I’m thinking my Octatrack, EssenceFM, Norand, BlackBox and a bass guitar could be pretty formidable in a live context…still spit balling, but it seems reasonable to me at the moment

I’m curious about your unhappiness with the pickup machines. I mean, it was never the looper they promised. I keep messing around with them but find it unintuitive and hard to see what’s going on—the visual feedback is what’s not working for me, I think. Also, I don’t like what it does with bpm on pickup machines. I wish it would just ignore that. I really really want them to work for me, though, because then I can sample into a pickup machine, have that going, and then have bits of that sample appear in flex machines on other tracks.

Terrific player. Gotta be tough to keep your intonation even close.

I don’t mess with pickup machines for all the reasons you just pointed out
I just record stuff on flex machines and set it to loop. Close enough!

Lol. It didn't even occur to me that that sort of thing happens on the internet, but of course it does. I like Elektron's sequencers, and never gelled with the sound of the A4 or some of its weirdo limitations. This synth seems to have a more powerful analog side and a filter sound more to my taste. We'll see.

for all who were/are interested in the ios surface deal, the discchord site is no more. apparently tim had some big life changes that caused him to stop doing it.

pretty sad about this as he and his site were a great source of knowledge for the ios community.

Thanks. Don't want a keyboard. Hoping they sort out the desktop. We'll see. I have a number of options for The Band. Was messing around with the Mopho on a break and I'm surprised at how "Rolandish" I can make it sound.

i guess i was thinking that it’s about the same size, but would also give you the key option, plus i think it can operate on battery power.

Great sound. Also love all the books in the background. Way better than the plants on the modular synth demos.

I had an Elektron Ananlog Four mk2 for maybe a year (probably less). Got some occasional great synth sounds, the drum sounds you can get are stellar. But that’s a ton of dough for a 4 voice drum synth. I also briefly used it to sequence modular. It almost, sort of does so many things! I never had fun using that machine. Everything about it was too much work
