Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Since health problems in relation to our playing seem to be a recurring theme on here, an update on my wrist fracture... Thankfully, the kind of fracture I had involved a chunk of bone breaking off, not a crack through the entire bone. WHEW! Which means I can go back to playing a lot, esp the six string, and I can even bike, although I do think my mtn biking season is over, as it still hurts like a mofo.

I haven't had any GAS lately. What's wrong with me?

Oh, wait, I bought that ZOIA a few weeks ago. Nevermind.

More Miezo camping bass this weekend!

gas: make noise semi-modular desktops keep calling my name. no idea why.

funny. The Strega hasn’t grabbed me yet. The 0 Control is kinda interesting. Might grab one plus a Quantizer at some point.

if you want to try out an 0 Coast, we might ge able to figure something out since I’ve got one that I don’t use much and we’re in the same town :)

25714537[/URL], member: 37282"]Great news on your wrist @lordradish .

already posted my gear thoughts for the day. I may be emerging from my intestinal night of darkness—ate a salad last night and a stir fry tonight. Fingers crossed.

What’s happening with @ugly_bassplayer’s ailments?

new thread name: ambient, post rock, textural, what hurts.
Back from the stomach flu, was out for 6 days and lost 20lbs, that’s more than 15% of my usual body weight.
I could barely stand on my own strength, sitting was absolute torture of spins blood pressure drops. One time I literally crawled to the bathroom to puke blood.
Still not 100%, seems like the gas tank takes time to fill back up. $%^&^% I’M getting old…. :(

Only good thing is that I’m the only one out of 5 who got that bug, things could have gotten WAYYYY worse.

Good\less bad news: we hit the studio for the 1st of three consecutive weekends to record my bands new stuff this saturday.

edit: any sleep for sale on ebay\reverb\classifieds???

I borrowed a buddies 0Coast for a few months and really enjoyed it. Record everything!

On Elektronauts, folks are raving the 0Control and to a lesser extent, the Strega, but I’m not tempted at the moment.

Would be cool :)

sorry, completly Off Topic:

english for native german speakers:
what does "gelled" means ? well, "i can grasp" what it means,
But: NO translation programm has ever showed that term to me.
Whats the root term ?

No problem, I live in a city where people are constantly explaining terms from another language.

The root is gel. Which is a noun. At some point it became a verb. Sort of means “to work well together with,” but I also like the metaphor of something viscous becoming more solid. Which definitely did not happen between me and the A4. We never worked well together, and we didn’t connect.

Give this a listen. I just got through it today and it was a fun story. I might need to read the book.

It’ll probably pass, but I was thinking about current disdain for modular (mostly the time and money suck). I’m thinking of putting together another Snipecatcher record as well as starting a new mostly electronic project with a singer/front person, so I started going over recordings from the past 3 years ago. It’s a silly amount of stuff because I tend to record and more or less mix everything as I’m messing around with it. Since there’s so much material, I’m trying to sub categorize everything. ‘Potential Snipecatcher,’ ‘Potential Vocal Tunes,’ ‘Ambient/Soundscape,’ ‘Aggressive,’ etc.
All that to say, I found a lot of stuff I really liked that was done in modular and I have no idea how to get some of those sounds any other way. Made me really miss my Cwejman SM-1, Mannequins Mangrove and Morphagene/Nebulae2 combo for playing live bass through. Probably miss that the most. Still the time/money suck vs results puts me off :)
