Just checked Reverb. Folks asking $1,200 and up for S950’s. Someone listed an s612 for over $1,900, but they’ve dropped the price several times. Pretty funny

Right. Essentially, everything that sucked about nascent technology is now considered "hip" because of all of its artifacts that subsequent technologies tried to fix [sic].

E.g., yes I was serious about a *ridiculously* good deal on an Akai S2000...but if you want to buy my Ensoniq Mirage, yer gonna have to cough up a few Benjamins.

edit: I also think the integrated 3.5" floppy disc storage rack really contributed to the charm of the S612.

I'm liking this new firmware update for the Korg Wavestate, lets you load in up to 4GB of User samples,
that paired up with my Basses with Roland GK hexaphone pickup's installed, into a Roland GR-55 GK synth and Boss SY-1000 synth,
then also bass to midi to the wavestate (or play the keys directly).
Take on the world !!!

I have never been too sentimental over old tech gear, you get something and its expectations always fall rather short.
Don't miss the lack of memory, or loading off floppies, or convoluted way of programming.

I know, I know. Unfortunately, my 100 year old building hasn't been designed to handle the temperature swings. I can compensate for hot or cold, but this shoulder season yo-yo of cold and hot is an annoyance. I packed away my AC unit last week, knowing good and well that I'd need to bring it right back out again. My place has this other great quirk, where lighting the pilot so I can have heat at night means it radiates more heat than you'd think, as it idles all day. It feels very silly to turn on my AC to combat the heat from the pilot light.

Add electronics to the combination and, well, you know...

I hear you! I'm in the SF Bay Area and this year had almost no complaints, but the threat of unseasonably hot weather always looms since a few years ago. I won't go into detail - I was bumming myself out! But this year has been fine -trying to appreciate each day - and record music as often as I can!

You know what I live about modular? Signal routing destroys magical thinking.

Sometimes I get a patch idea and it doesn’t work. Then I need to know why. Quite often there’s some assumptions I’ve made I that the system will just know what I want it to do, and somehow complete the routing. But no. No dancing paper clip pops up and tells me “it looks like you’re trying to…” Instead, I need to rethink what I told the thing to do, versus what I wished it would do for me.

Needless to say, I’ve got a stereo patch going tonight. I understand why folks love mono synths. Because stereo and/or polyphony is hard.

started as local sale. guy wanted me to give a reduced price (80% of what i want) and eat shipping and paypal costs to san luis obiso (down to 75%, no). we haggle. i think about it. get a message from my aunt that she and my cousins are going be in san luis. so off i go to see them and deliver the pedals. yes. i’m nuts.
