Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

Haven’t bought a eurorack module since august, 2020, but that ended yesterday. Ordered a Xaoc Zadar and a Squarp Rample. Seriously considering an Instruo Arbhar which would make the rack look like this…

At the moment, my Qu-Bit Bloom is where the Arbhar is pictured. I pulled out some old perc modules, my Doepfer A110-4 and my L-1 Dual Discrete VCF. Haven’t had the Joranalogue Filter racked up for quite some time, but am putting it back in for awhile to see if it stays or goes. There’s other possibilities and if I want to get silly and expand I still have a 104 HP Make Noise skiff laying around:)

I definitely know HOW it works, making it work…..that a whole other story.

(Crawls back to basement with calculator size sampler and 2 track recorder)

The patch I just did with a two-note harmony/chord and a single line melody was a brain pain. Doing it in stereo didn't make things easier. You start doing things like -
Blue cables have an "l" so those are for the left. Green cables have an "r" so those are the right side paths. Purple has an "l" so that is a left side (ignoring the "r" in purple...). Yellow has a "l" and "o" like "clock" so the time based clock signals use yellow cables.

...and then you poke a voodoo doll, roll some dice, and light a prayer candle.

Or, you can just plug whatever into whatever, except avoiding plugging outputs into other outputs, and then turn knobs and see what happens.

My guess would be the latter, but that's why you have a Soundcloud/Bandcamp/Youtube link available so anyone can see what the hubbub is about - either the artist if they actually are interested, or someone else reading it who might think, "wow, if this person wants to hear it maybe I should hear it too" - and you don't even have to push it on them, it's just there.
Right, I think I'd want this guy to only hear my best stuff, so I haven't done that.

Joranalogue Filter racked up for quite some time, but am putting it back in for awhile to see if it stays or goes.

The thing about the Filter 8 is that it's a fine filter that's easy to feedback patch, an ok phaser, or an awesome 8-phase LFO or VCO. And it does track and hold. I'm on a big "utility" kick and it's definitely utility. I like his stuff a lot in general but am trying not to buy modules since I'm more than full up.

Okay, I doubt this is my entry into being a Youtuber (if it is, I have a lot to learn), but here's the tutorial.

I originally said I had fun doing this last night, even though I redid it. Yeah, well after godless-knows-how-many takes I did into the wee hours of the morning, I wanna take that back. I don't know how many times I'd go through the pedal run through, think I nailed it, only to realize I forgot something.

But it did give me a good idea of what I need to do next (namely, write an f-ing script, or at least have more detail in my notes than a grocery list). I also was able to learn a lot about how to use Davinci, which is an amazing video editor. This will come in handy when I want to make videos for my upcoming album releases.

If I do get any positive response to this, I will likely make some more. Don't make me do that. Constructive criticism welcome.

well done

but . . .needs more shredding.

The main thing to remember is that with modular, the walls punch you :)

I finished off the melody. Added some effects and modulation. It is pretty ridiculous and it makes me giggle.

Heavy!!!

When I had it in the rack, I used it more as an LFO or VCO as I thought the filter was a tad boring. I’m putting it back in to see how I feel after not hearing it for a couple years. Should know soon :)

for those who may want to know, i heard about this on a podcast of robert rich, who had a lot to do with its design.

Yeah, that thing is awesome. I don’t have room to even ponder that.

This is just a brief clip from goofing around with the Light Pedal (and a bit of delay). The thing is nuts. It's like having a deranged alien trapped in a box on the pedal board. (And yes, I kicked it a couple times at the end.)

That was awesome! Funny, I haven’t even tried running a bass through mine. I really should do that!
