I realized that he had confused his dislike of the band with a quantitative judgment about their abilities.
I had a friend many years ago who told me I needed to be more cautious with the musical opinions I espoused, because as an educated musician (I happen to have two degrees in music, fwiw) my opinions do carry a degree of quantitative judgment. (!!!)
Pffftt... I told him if folks can't discern my opinions from facts it's not my responsibility to set them straight.
But it does highlight a certain lack of discrimination on many people's judgements. "The Beatles suck" can't even be a factual statement absent additional qualifications. And trying to further factualize (yes I really did use that word) that opinion by offering additional qualifications -- e.g., "The Beatles' music was naively simplistic due to its lack of historically informed craft" -- just demands further context for those qualifications, and most of the folks spewing those sort of opinions are neither equipped to nor even aware of how they would have to provide that context.
It's a combination of ignorance and laziness: Far easier just to say "____________" without having to append "I think ____________" to every utterance ...and without having to recognize that that's what you are really expressing.

people are stupid
THe problem for me, even though I knew how most people are stupid, is that it seems the stupids are winning, now.I thought of something to add:
people are stupid
present company excepted of course!![]()

Amps sectionI’m a lurker… I agree too much with all of what was said in the past few pages… probably why I stay out of the strings / bass / amp sections… I have no idea how they keep posting new content some days
But then what’s that to say about me who likes the effects section, comments on how my limited time playing / exposure to ambient noise peice solo music and the occasional band practice with my 3 other friends in a non serious metal band has any reflections of fact…pot kettle black / mind explosions on overthinking or something…
At any rate, this thread has new content and pretty good folks so![]()
Probably doesn’t help that I’ve had the same brand of bass / amp / strings for almost the entirety of my tb user time here… can’t remember when I joined but think it was at least 2008 if not earlier hahAmps section

While my interests/temperament have almost no overlap with the amps forum, on occasion I have received invaluable assistance there. Shout out to @Passinwind for steering me to victory while the rest of the forum belittled me. My modified Fearful single 12” cab is still a central part of my rig. There are kind, helpful people sprinkled throughout TB.Amps section
