I am new to talkbass and gigging. I am looking for advice as to what type of rig to use. I have been asked to play several outdoor gigs with a group doing "new country". I wasn't going to spend any money on gear so I loaded up my micro vr with the extra 210 cab and was swallowed up by the guitar amp and especially the drums. I am looking at a markbass cdm102p with an additional markbass traveler 102p that I can pickup used. I am trying to keep things light and small but I don't want to spend money on something that won't cut through because its just too small. In every event I will be run through the house but I've still got to hear myself. All advice/ input welcome...

Hi,
I'd tell your band mates to keep the stage volume down, especially if you've got a full sound system. I rarely bring more than my GK 800RB and a 2x10 cabinet to gigs where there is full sound. If you can't hear yourself with a 300w amp on top of a 4x10 cabinet then your guys are playing way too loud on stage.

That's the big question: Do you have PA support? If so, then take BassCliff's advice and turn the stage volume down and let the PA do the heavy lifting. That's what the XLR output is there for on the back of the Micro VR. Use it.
Oh, and BassCliff, the Micro VR is only 200W IIRC.
Welcome to TB for starters ... your stage volume must be deafening ... do the boys and/or girls you are playing with realize they just need to be able to hear what each other is doing and the house is carrying what is going to the front?? ... you have a 200 watt 410 monitor, should be more than enough ...do you have the 210AV's stacked tall so they are closer to your ear?? maybe change your EQ a bit to cut some lows to make it easier for you to hear, maybe get the monitor mix to send you a bit back so you are getting it from both sides?? ... but somehow you gotta get the gorillas to realize its not a competition ... JMHO

Thank you. I was just offering some general guidelines. I wasn't familiar with the specs for the OP's amp. Still, 200w should be plenty to be heard on stage. Don't you think? I still play quite a few gigs with my Bassman 100 and a 1x15.

200W should be plenty especially if he stacks those 210's vertically.
OP, I just re-read your post and see that you will be running through the house. New Country music shouldn't be all that loud on stage I imagine. When the guitarists aren't looking turn their amps down!
