Amp Advice

Just a quick question, I'm new to this so here goes...

I currently run 2x peavey amp heads, through two Fender BXR Spectrum cabs (1x18", 2x10", high freq horn), im wanting to bi amp them as follows...

-Bass to Boss GT6B
-Stereo out of the GT6B
-Then L channel to one amp head and R channel to other amp head
-Then take both signals from both amp heads a use a stereo crossover and split each channel (L and R) into high, mid and low and send low to 18" mid to 2x10" and high to high freq horn but keeping it all stereo.

Would it be possible to use my amp heads before the crossover unit? The one im looking at is the BEHRINGER SUPER-X PRO CX3400, its pretty cheap and i think its 3way stereo (well i presume it means it'll have 3 channels per side)

Will this work? It should make the whole unit sound pretty good while keeping it stereo, i thought i might as well keep it stereo just for completion, but being honest i only use a couple of chrous effect so not the end of the world if not!

Any help would be gladly received!:)

Correct. Be careful when looking at specific crossovers to be sure what type of signal they are meant to handle. Also, they way you have described it you will need six speaker cabs, not three. You can get mono 3-way using three cabs, or stereo using two cabs, but stereo 3-way is six cabs.

How about buying a pair of powered 3-way PA cabs instead? That way you get clear definition at full range, plus stereo spread.

Another thing to note: below 200 Hz, signals are non-directional as far as our ears are concerned. So many bassists find stereo rigs useless on their low end. One option would be to send clean, un-effected bass to a subwoofer cab, and send the mids and highs through the effects and then out to a pair of PA cabs. (Remember you'll need preamps and powered cabs or power amp channels for each channel of audio.)

They are great cabs rickenboogie just a little on the large side! My aim (when i get the money) is to re speaker them and recover one of them, they should be a good setup once done, if i have a bigger gig then ill take both and just use one for rehersal.

People have said i couldnt use a crossover after the amplifiers, can you get a crossover which can handle being used after the amp?

Cheers, Ed
