+1 for Eden. Clean and as transparent as it gets and I believe they have headphone outputs on all their heads. Oh, and lets not forget, it's made in America, not Italy or Asia.

AMP FOR THE REAL BASS

Not if you don't select them it doesn't. It is also a preamp in that it has both a DI level output and a separate, adjustable line level output that you can use simultaneously to drive your power amp.
In terms of transparency there's no bass amp I've used that comes close to a U5. And yet while it sounds fine but not that special on it's own, it just comes alive in a mix. A surprisingly effective live pre.
