Fender Studio Bass:

I had a Studio Bass back in '81 or so.....awesome amp, I kick myself for ever getting rid of it! Hard to believe that so much sound could come out of a 1-15" combo!!!

I know in my previous job we have used a type of dye to check for cracks in metal. Possibly for bad solder joints, but I'm only guessing.

yeah, i've had four Studio bass amps over the years. i converted this one to a head/cab configuration to make it a bit easier to transport. i used a JBL E140 in the cabinet.

I also built up another one using a Super Twin for the head (its basically the exact same amp as a studio bass), but on this one i used a bassman 100 cab loaded with two JBL K140's. this one really puts out alot of sound (power!)

Mine has different face cloth...... I wonder if it is original? It was the amp with tube rects.

It's kinda sparkly, but without the Fender style pattern. Smoother........


Those Sunn and Fender cabs are "Ultra Sexy" with the JBL dust covers behind them.!!!

mine's a '71. your's, with the tube rectifiers is a bit older. and your grill cloth is original looking to me (the early cloth was ampeg-ish, but without the blue tint).

Thanks! i love 'em too. its nice to find and re-purchase some of the amps that i had when i was young. they sound AWESOME, and these are in pretty good shape

2001 SWR SM-900- really similar to the SM400s a few pages ago...

And one of my two Seymour Duncan 300x2 amps (although I refer to them as 300x300. This one has been kind of butchered, but it's the better sounding of the two:

I still have a hard time believing these amps didnt take off

The Duncan amps smoked anything from their day.

I say pretty much the exact thing- it's completely beyond me why these amps weren't a "hit."

By the way. Isnt that duncan the 8000? I never got to cracking mine open but yours looks like it? Unless its just a stereo head for more output

The Duncans I have are the 300x2- and that's the way it's written on the amp as well as the manual on the SD site:

The numbering scheme kind of confuses me- I've "heard of" the 4000 and the 8000, but the only ones I've seen are the 300x2. I've heard of people owning the 400x2 amps, but never seen one in person.

Looking at the Bass 400 manual- the difference is the bi-amp feature (or dual mono). For the amp that's detailed- the individual "channels" of the amp are disabled- but they're functional on my "stock" head- and I used to get a lot of use out of the dual mono feature- my 4x10 could take more power than my Triad- so I was able to do that with the seperate volume outputs. They're both still good amps- the "chicken head" is a bit fragile- I don't know all the work or repair that's gone on in there before I got it around 13 years ago... The Stock one has never had any serious issues- but they both don't have the same "immediacy" or bottom end that the SWR has. They're still more awesome than any other SS head made before 1990 that I've come across...

Peavey VB2. Made in USA!!! It has a vintage style pilot light lens on the front but inside there is an LED. The angled bracket supports the power transformer and is bolted to the bottom of the head box.
