Yes, about half the time I play the Betterbacker. Sometimes it's just easier to plug into my practice bass amp as I use the preamp some for other purposes and don't want to disconnect everything.

I've honestly never seen the electronic version of a Jackson Pollock painting before. Well done.

Yeah I crammed a lot of components into that small box. The power supply ate some room but i.was determined not to use crappy electrolytics, and after drilling, I was committed to using the chassis.

I know it looks.like hell, but it is amazingly quiet. The reverb has some hum at higher levels. Working on that.
It's two channels one a 5879 with 6 position switches for bass and treble, the other an AX7 with bass and treble, tube fx loop, a 6AW8 one tube reverb, EL84 AB1 PP pair. I'm building it for my grandson. Started work on the cabinet today.

Those anodized tube shields look nice, but they don't shield very good. I used a Dremel to remove the anodizing so they conduct ground and they worked even better.

In the end, I just use plain aluminum, less hassle.

Thanks for that. I didn't remember the insulating element. I Dremelled? the surfaces and measured continuity to ground. With everything maxed the low level hum/noise is the same. I was kind of suprised, as before grinding, they were definitely insulated. The future is plain Aluminum for me. Well, after I grind down some gold anodized shells anyway.

Right, so your low level noise wasn't due to radiated noise picked up by the tube, but should be better shielded if ever exposed.

No, it wasn't from external radiated noise . Noise was extremely low to begin with. I had high hopes with the reverb though, as it has more hum that i would like, especially at high reverb levels. My fingers induce greater hum as i get nearer to the 6AW8. It's too tall for the standard shell, however forcing one over the tube and holding it to make contact does little. As you said, if subjected to a field it woulld provide some attenuation. I need to source a taller shield for that tube. Meanwhile the hunt continues for the reverb hum.
