ampeg 7pro vs other micro amps

I played a 7 Pro last night and thought it was very nice. It is more than twice as heavy as my current top performer, so I doubt it would dethrone it, but for the days where I want an Ampeg tone it would be nice.

I definitely wouldn't classify it as a micro head, it's 15lbs and 2U.

In case you haven't noticed, there's been a thread going on about that all week that was eventually shutdown because adults failed to conduct themselves at a level that can be expected of many 7 year-olds.

The measured power falls a bit short of the advertised numbers. The 7pro could rightfully be called at least a 750, and it's a damn loud amp. Users also say it has the classic Ampeg tone in spades.

Not an argument, though I did think that was a little inflammatory what you said. Just that the folks in that thread who actually know something about electronics (including the former chief engineer at Ampeg when owned by SLM) are concluding that it's a legit 1000w amp with a safety feature that might cut back on the wattage a little if the voltage gets too much higher than the normal 120v. And even if you were pushing a gigantic cab rig at baby-killing levels to get to the point where the limiter kicks in on you a little early on a higher voltage line, you'd never notice it in a million years. You can go read the pertinent threads for yourselves and draw your own conclusions, but I've concluded that the 7 Pro is a 1000w amp as advertised. I may be an Ampeg endorser but I care very much about amps being what they advertise, and I'd have come to the same conclusion regardless. Feel free to add grains of salt to taste, but that is my opinion.

Jerrold really gave us a master class in electronics. Some guys out here like Jerrold, B string, John K etc really sit on some heavy knowledge.

The 7pro is definitely not a micro in my eyes, but it seem to be a real SVT but for mush less weight.

And your reasoning and qualifications for disagreeing with the former chief engineer for Ampeg are...?

I should be done with you, but that statement really intrigued me and I had to comment on it. You got a highly qualified engineer who knows how the amp works telling you what's going on with it, you've got the head of Bass Gear Mag who's not arguing against it, and we've got a second bench test showing that it's entirely capable of putting out 1000w. What's not a 1000w amp about that?

Nope. Every Ampeg bench test I've ever heard about they equal or exceed their wattage specs, with the possible exception of tube amps that have weaker power tubes in them. And even they usually test pretty well from what I've seen.

No offence dude but I notice your endorsement with ampeg and read your posts on the other thread. So I'd rather here from someone less biased

Then go read the stuff on here about them and make your own conclusions. I got no problem with that. And check out Bass Gear Mag's review of the Micro VR in their issue 4 for a bench test of another recent product of theirs.

I'll back jimmy up on this one. I am not endorsed with ampeg. In fact spent a few years endorsed with peavey amps. I say, listen to jimmy on ampegs. He won't blow smoke up your whoopsy daisy, and will be the first to tell when an ampeg does suck.

Btw, I totally love the 7 pro. It is as awesome as they say.

Think I'll give at miss after reading through all of that thread. Seems like there's a lot of negative things being said about this amp. Lots of good to but I'd rather something that has less controversy surrounding it.
