Ampeg B2re help please.

Just recently, the volume started getting distorted and dropping out when I hit high notes, then if I hold the note out, it makes some weird frequency noise. Then after a while it kinda sounds like there is a chorus effect (with no effects in the loop of course). It kinda sounds like a tube head with its tubes starting to go out. If this makes any sense, could someone help me out? I took it in to get checked out, but it wasn't happening at the time the dude was looking at it. It seems to only do it when I'm about 30 minutes into playing.

My settings aren't too out of control, I set my EQ a little high, but it still does it with the EQ off.

Thanks in advance.

I've been emailing ampeg about this, they have been very helpful with responding, here's what I got.

AMPEG: "I've read through your problem here regarding your B2RE. First thing I have to ask is what cabinet are you running it into?
It sounds like the soft limiting is coming on because you may be running out of headroom."

ME:"I run through an ampeg 8x10 classic. Yes, when the problem happens, the limiter light goes nuts and wont turn off. But it still does it if I dont run the EQ and if i put all my settings to 12 o clock, i've ran a B1re (300w) through it and it didnt give me any problems"

AMPEG: "I think therein lies your problem.
The 810 is an 800/1600 watt cabinet and you're only putting out about 450 watts @ 4 ohms. There's not nearly enough power in there to push that 810. Your limiter is coming on preventing the power section from square waving the speakers there.

You either need more power or a lesser powered cabinet. I hate to be the bearer of bad news here but that seems to be what's going on here. Eventually you will probably blow a speaker by underpowering it."

Makes sense, but I know of numerous people who run that head through that cab, and wouldn't the b1re give me the same problems? No matter what level I run my amp at it still does it.
