I have played a couple of Yorkvilles and can say they beat Crate HANDS-DOWN! I prefer the Ampeg tone to that of Yorkville, but definitely get Yorkville over Crate. Crate is not very good, especially their combos IMHO. I once owned a Crate BT-350 amp and it wasn't that bad, provided you have good cabs. But their combos make me wince...
I have had a few yoorkvilles in my time, BM100, ive played the 200 and owned the BM400 also. When I got them I searched around alot and they were the best sounding combos in their price range. I now own SWR and Eden gear but I kept my BM400 as a back up amp and I actually use the 15" speaker with my rig. I'm not a big Ampeg fan, I just don't like it. I sugest if you have the cash spending a few more hundred and picking up the BM400.
Boy, thanks guys, but you're a bit late. I got the Ampeg last September (2000) and I'm happy with it. It has a few small shortcomings, and it's HEAVY but I like it.
