I'm also amused at some of the comments...amazing how it hasn't even been announced officially that they're doing another V4B, yet some of you already know exactly what it looks like, sounds like, and costs. U doodz am funniez!

Also...Heritage B-15...50 made last year, 50 sold out in a few months. 100 made this year, 100 sold out before they were even finished making them. Might not have hit our price point but someone's buying them. Not eveything in the world is made to come in at a low enough price point for whiners who likely wouldn't have bought one in the first place to afford.

Talkbass...the only place people will review gear without it even existing.

Tube quality/consistency isn't what it was in the old days. Heck, there's only a couple/three factories that make them and they're all just relabeled for whatever company sells them, so, a warranty might help you a bit there. But, I would think like speakers, they might not cover tubes for the whole 5 years, maybe 3 months or a year or something....but I don't really know. You can get 4 power tubes for a hundred bucks and pre tubes are cheap, so, you might have to roll through a few to get a good set in there, but once you do, you can expect many, many years from them.

Why the warrany? If the amp is worth a damn at all it'll last a whole lot longer than any warranty. You could get an old one rebuilt 3 times over for the cost of a new one. If this is going to work, it has to maintain all the tone and feel of the original and add something more. Premium parts/made in the US/toroid power transformer-lighter weight/more features......something.

Or just leave this market niche to Fender.:p

Honestly, the bassman was likely easier to "improve" as a dedicated bass amp. The V4 maybe not so much. People won't like it if anything comes up short of the original.

I'd rather have 2 vintage amps, for less money than one new one, and know that if one does go down, I can use the other one in the meantime while the first one is getting fixed. And pay for the repairs and STILL have less money out of pocket than one new one with a warranty.

But that's just me... :p

I rather wish Ampeg had posted this before I got my Bassman 100T, because I would have bought it without a second thought. Now I just cannot see me getting rid of the 100T which is proving to be a really versatile head, but I can see me getting a V4B as well. Guess I am just an amp whore :hiding:. In favour of the 100T I have sat it side by side with my VR and can EQ as close as I have ever heard to an SVT tone from it - although obviously without all the extra headroom. Certainly way, way closer than any pedal clone I have tried, plus it obviously nails that classic Fender tone as well. It will be interesting to see what price any new Ampeg head comes in at - the Fender certainly ain't cheap......

Keeping with current trends is it possible this new V4B amp might be a micro with a V4B front end, similar to the GK Fusion series?
Seems like they have micro poweramps to choose from with only a pre to repackage.
I could see demand for this amp as well.

Yes there is demand for it...it's called the SVT 7 Pro. Not a dead-on dupe of the V4B's pre, but close enough for a micro power amp. In a tube amp? Forget it. There are 5 things you just don't do:

1. Tug on Superman's cape

2. Spit into the wind

3. Pull the mask off the ol' Lone Ranger

4. Mess around with Jim

5. Build an Ampeg tube amp without iron power and output transformers.
