Ampeg just dropped a bomb on Facebook...

I honestly think my distaste of the SVT comes more from the cab than the actual head. The cab is a carvin sealed 410, and it's really middy. When I played the SVT through an NV610 it didn't sound so bad. I just have had a hard time with the SVT-CL and this cab.
I wouldn't blame them for using a toroid power transformer to cut some weight. It's the same thing that made poweramps drop from 50lbs. to 25 back there a decade or 2. The output transformer is much more important as it's in the path from amp to speaker. Better not skimp on that one.
Something about SMPS in a tube amp just doesn't sit well with me. The brains may say it works fine, but there's a mental thing about it I just cannot accept.

Hey, now! Unfair! I didn't say there is one. I said that if people want one so bad, they should go buy a vintage V-4B! 'cause there ISN'T one.
Well, and, I implied that if Ampeg does make a new one, it will be expensive - like in the realm of the Fender 100T price (say, within $200 - 300 dollars one way or the other). And I'll bet you a dollar on that one!

Well look, good stuff costs money. I've been complaining about that since I got into playing music, and to this day nobody's done a thing about it for me
But Ampeg's managed to keep the price of their 300w tube amps a fair amount lower than most of the competition while keeping the sound intact. You could buy a Behringer hunk of crap knockoff for much less, but if you want the good stuff, it costs. But I'm almost positive we'll be seeing a new V4B at Summer NAMM. Ryan's already started working the Facebook tease. I know his gimmicks
I know it costs money. And I'm not knocking Ampeg for wanting to make a profit. Heck, I want them to make a profit! Otherwise, they'll go out of business and then where would we be?
I'm just saying, for the people who are saying they would buy an Ampeg 100W tube amp, if Ampeg would just make one, well, they did and they're out there. So go buy one (and probably save yourself a bunch of money, too). Out-of-towners (Euro-types and our Canadish neighbors) are excused.

I like Ampeg, but their prices IMO are crazy. Maybe cause I don't have the money to spend on them.

I said the same thing when the 100T was announced. I denied for a couple months until I came into a extra $800. I told myself I would sell my other amp to fund the rest. I put the whole amount on a card.
My VB-2 is still sitting here.
I really can not sell it now, I mean, what if I need a back up or more power for a outside gig?

But that's something they want to keep special, and I dig that. Got one already, anyway. Besides, I don't even know who the boss at Ampeg is now. I'm sure he or she is very nice and quite capable, though.
LOL! Yup. I now have a black line SVT, a U.S.-made SVT 2 Pro, and a '73 V-4 (well, and a '72 Traynor YBA-3). All 3 of the vintage amps, acquired in the last 6 months. And I blame it all (well, mostly) on johnk_10 and JimmyM. LMAO!
I dont remember exactly what I paid for a new PF500, but it was not much, and I love it. I paid a lot more for vintage B15, and B12XTC, and a lot less for a B100R. They all sound different, but they all sound good, and can all serve a different purpose.
Since there is so much V4B love going on, here are some pics of a NOS 1979 model that came up a few years ago. Not sure how much it went for. This is a later model and not the one that many consider the most desirable V4B.

Which cab would you like to see with a reissued V4B? Perhaps a 215 like the earliest model had? The model above came with a 412. I'd like a 215, no question.

Yeah. Part of my statement was goofing off....unfortunately, a large part of it wasn't. Hell, truth be told, I have been a gear slut as long as I could remember.
I used to be a small class D eden guy, could never get the sound I wanted though.
Then I bought a 74 SVT that came up. Now I own a 74 and a CL, but have owned a b15N as well. Alot of it had to do with Jimmy.
It's the head + cab combo, together it's like $700 or $800 last time I checked which is pretty pricey.
