That's too bad, Pytor was a good guy to talk with about amps and tone goals for bassplayer, and he certainly had a outlook for Ampeg bass gear that was pretty cool.

I think he was a hand build, boutique amp builder kind of guy before coming to Ampeg. Wonder what he'll do next ?

No one has considered that the next guy might be great.
I know nothing about Mr. Pytor; did he really bring in original and succesful ideas that wouldn't have occured on their own? Was his compensation consistent with what he brings to the table?


The ski sales example is not ruthless, unusual, or unexpected.
I have been a highly commissioned sales professional for the last 15 years.
Coming up with marketing ideas, programs, sale techniques, large customers, etc. is what you get highly compensated for. Most of these jobs do not come with any sort of guarantee in regards to protecting your ideas, techniques, or customers. The succesful keep finding new ways to be indespensible. I just came home from a 13 hour day but did finally close a $150K residential masonry project.
100% Comission - not the most relaxing way to lead ones life...

As in "Blackheart Amps"? That's cool. Seen a few of those around here and they always sounded great.

That's too bad. Ampeg was headed for the gutter in the first part of the LOUD thing, and deservedly so. Then, they get their head screwed on straight, come out with some great products and basically sailed to the top again. Now, some fatcats think they got it figured out, and can chop heads, cut costs, rake it in and assume they've got it all figured out, which history has proven over and over again, doesn't work, but here we go agian.

What's that old saying about repeating the same behaviour and expecting a different result???

If I was rich, I would buy Ampeg, hire Beans, Jerrold, B-string and John_k and say..."free reign guys", and have the greatest stuff ever. I'd be doing the speaker end of things of course.:smug: Of course, I would hire accountants who would shut the #@%& up unless we couldn't make payroll.:p

Well i heard from a very unreliable source that it came from a bad call. I was told he was against low wattage tube amp. Then EBS, Ashdown, Fender, and mesa all have started production. Are having sucess and now ampeg is late to the show.


Take this with a grain of salt!

Fuzz, if that's the case, it would make sense. I thought that was not a good move to not bring one out, especially now. But if true, it also means that they'll be getting one into production pretty soon...which = good news!

But unrelated to your post, I am glad to see an angry Talkbass mob forming. As usual, there's no shortage of negative Nellies who, without any knowledge or regard for the facts, are willing to predict the end of the world. Good going, Talkbass...you never let me down!
