Hello all. My pf500 continued to cut out when I ran it at 4 ohms. 8 ohms was not a problem at all. So I contacted loud technologies and had me send it to a shop to be serviced. But are claiming that the problem I am having is uncommon and they don't know what to tell me. I am feeling quite stuck at this point because the amp sounds awesome through one of my fifteens. But would sound awesome through both! Damn...

I would direct the Loud CS reps to these threads as the cutting out issue is well discussed in every part of this thread going all the way back to part 1. As are the many different answers from Loud on to how to avoid the cutting out issue.

I realize it maybe a product line that he does not deal with, and he may not be able to comment for other reasons as well, but TB member: hodgy may know something about the failure mode(s), and any design problem, or operator error, (as evidenced by a "No problem found" warranty analysis).

Whether he can tell us what Ampeg knows about the issue may not be up to him.

I have a PF500 that I really like, but I am glad I have other amps, (Ampeg) on hand if it ever does not perform as expected. (I don't push it, and it works, and sounds good for how I use it).

Agreed for sure, but I'm happy to post the solution to my cutting out problems again, since we're on Part VI of this thread and marcbass13 is still pretty new.

Marcbass13, I'm not claiming this is THE answer to your problem, but here's what solved the cutting out issues with my PF500/PF115HE (x2) stack.

1. With the Compressor and Master knobs completely off, set the Gain knob according to your bass. I usually set my Gain knob where the clip light just starts to come on when I'm really digging in.
2. AFTER your Gain knob is set, THEN dial in some compression if you feel you need it.
3. NOW dial Master to taste.

According to the Loud tech I spoke with via email, having the compressor on while setting the gain fools the preamp circuit and can cause the preamp to overload and go into protection mode, causing the cutting out issues. Since getting this solution from the tech, I haven't had any problems with my amp cutting out when I use both cabs for a 4ohm load.

I do the same with my 350 (no comp but the same principle) and my limit light bings all the time at max clean master with no cut outs. It only cuts If j really crank it over and the light is on nearly constantly. I ran a couple of quick experiments (a few rapid fire open E's and A's) like this and of course backed off before killing anything. I then turn the limit off and use my ears.

I dont know if this is common knowledge, but In case someone else runs into this problem; i got a new pf500 with the 115. It was missing one of the screws to mount the head to the fliptop lid. I found a replacement and it was a metric m4x40mm. Hope this might help someone.

The small wheels are a bit flimsy for rolling on cracked sidewalks etc. no problem inside on smooth floors, but out in the wild, not so much.
There was a discussion about this a while back, and someone upgraded without much trouble. I am looking to do the same, add larger tougher casters, i just cannot seem to locate the thread.
