Ampeg PF500/350, part 4

stiles72, Saw your picture and it pushed me over the edge. I called Musician's Friend and ordered my second PF115 a few minutes ago. $30 off for the sale on Ampeg's website and $51.80 more off because they let me use the GREEN2012 code: 14% off from Musician's Friend. I intend to get a second PF500 someday and have one amp at practice and one for gigs. I'm selling my B-100R.

I would use large washers and backing plates with those chrome handles if you decide to go that route. The surface area : leverage ratio may be too much for that poplar over time. I had considered porting my 15's as well - but it seems they have sounded better over time and I no longer want to mess with them - but my favorite idea for porting/handles was to combine the two like my 1960 B15. You would also have the option to cover the ports with a couple of over sized pieces on the inside - and the "handles" would remain. If only the tolex was available, I might have done it.

Adding a speakon jack to the side of the cabs in the "traditional" location, chrome B18/BT15 handles, possibly the caster cups of some sort, and rear porting them ala the B100R/BA115

I am also thinking about putting handles on my PF115s. I would probably make cutouts and do a recessed handle like a Marshall amp or similar. Maybe a quality spring loaded amp handle. I am not really worried about authentic asthetics, resale value, or anything. I just want to make my life easier. If I do, I will post pictures. Let us know how it all works out if you decide to port it. That's an even bigger step.

I like the look of the chrome handles, and if I use them I did plan to use some large washers on the inside - just to be safe. They seem to have held up well on my old ones, but I can see where the washers would be a good idea. I only really considered handles after I went to stack the top cab onto the extension, and realized there was no where to grab with the head flipped over in playing position. The old B15's at least have the side scoops near the lid which help you lift the entire unit - but the new ones force you to bear hug the amp unless the lid is inverted.

Have you considered a "traditional" dolly or two? Again, too bad the tolex is not available.

Yes, but probably down the road once (and if) the tolex becomes available.

Yeah I got a reply back from Ampeg. 410 is 8ohm only. I replied with the reponse below to see what they say.

Poo. Oh well. It's great for those wanting to stack to 410's but the purpose I thought of an "HLF" cab was to add the low end response without having a second cab. I have owned a Classic 410 HLF,610 HLF and Pro 410 HLF and was curious why this is only HLF that isn't 4 ohm.

Seems overkill to have a 500 watt PF head with two cabs with a 1600 watts at 4ohm potential. Unless you have a PF1000 coming out.

They say that both the 115 and 410 cabs have an 8 ohm impedance.

I think that they have a typo in their manual. In the manual they show that the 10" speakers are 16 ohms each.

The way they show that the cab is wired, it would be 16 ohms. If the speakers were 8 ohms, the cab could be wired for an 8 ohm impedance.

Buy two cabs and you could have a 4 ohm configuration.
