How long did you play before it cut out? Was it minutes, hours, or days...??? Could one plug their amp into a 4 ohm load and know right away if there was going to be trouble?

Before I started doing the "Ampeg Approved" setup method with the compressor, mine started cutting out immediately when I hooked up both PF115's and started playing.

Can you guys sum up the feedback for me? Tough to parse 4000 posts :o

I'm thinking about getting a micro head with a headphone jack and aux in ... Pf500 with a 115 looks perfect on paper. I tend to dig ampeg. Basically this will just be a practice amp, but if the head sounds good with my gs412 I might end up gigging it.

How does the tone compare to the micro vr head?

I traded a Lil markbass for a pf500. Worst deal ever. The eq. tones were far more inferior compared to markbass. You pay for what you get or you don't get it.

It very much depends on the sound you're looking for. I have my PF500 and a Shuttle 6, and they're two very different amps. The Shuttle has a similar sound to my experiences with a LMII... Tight, punchy, more clean & modern... Where the Ampeg has a rounder, more dirty & vintage tone.

I definitely wouldn't call the Ampeg's tone inferior... Just quite different.

With my pf500, the head could not reproduce the frequencies that my double buck active Warwick5 string produced, I immediately got rid of it. It was totally unpredictable.
I,ll never try an ampeg again.

Makes my passive P bass with flats sound like a million bucks. Like 5sg said, different sound than some amps, but definitely not bad at all! Good luck on your search for your tone!

I keep thinking I need to try one of these PF350/500's. But I do have a LMII and VT pedal. Many here say I can get very close to the Ampeg tone with this combo.

I recently bought a MAG300H from The Bass Place for a very good price, brand new ITB sale. It sounds alot like my old, ABM 500 RCII but into one of my GB Neox 212T cabs. But I had the input/output knobs wide open at a small club last week. Never had to do this with either of my Markbass heads. And this with a active bass, very rare I've had to do this before into a 4 ohm cab. Maybe shoulda went ahead and paid for a ABM 500 or even better that Spyder 550 head I like so much on YouTube.

Now my MB LMII, I feel, sounds quite simiar to the MAG300 with some of the filters n knobs it has. I can prolly make use of the MAG300 for my smaller gigs and I'm thinking now the PF500 won't serve my purpose.

But now that SVT PRO7 sure looks like it'd be a fun amp to try, read alota good things about it. The PF head seems to still have some QC issues from all I've read here but many are enjoying there's. Luck O' the draw maybe?

Yeah, I think at this point the PRO 7 sounds like the one to get. I can use it's power as I get no PA support and have to cover the rooms with bass. Maybe I just need to tweak my LMII+VT pedal more.
Now my GB Streamliner 900 is killing it for me right now....should prolly leave well enough alone. GAS is a b*tch; aint it.
