Ampeg PF500/350, part 4

Another 3 hour session last night and my relationship with my PF500 gets stronger and stronger :)
Have even minimised the amount of farting from my BC212cabs (just play quieter ;)), still waiting for the Bareface super twelve to turn up,good things come to those who wait :D
I am starting to hear the differences with the 5 way mid switch, they are subtle and I expect the BF cab to let them sing :bassist:
My settings at present in a 3 piece rock,rock n roll covers band are;

Gain 2 o clock
Bass 10
Mid 12
Treble 12
Switch 3 or 5
Volume last night was 12
Ultra low and high off
Comp zero

With my MIM P this gave a superb tone which really filled the room which was a quite large school drama room .

I am going to be using my PF500/PF115 live in about 5 hours. Can anyone who has been using theirs live give me any tips on EQ settings? There is just a bass amp and a guitar amp. I just want a good low end tone that compliments best a variety of rock music. I understand it is all subjective. Like, maybe I shouldn't use the ultra low? Midrange control on 1 or 2 and bools a little? I like to turn the treble down. I want good low end thump that can be felt on the dance floor, but not mud. I hope this is a good question for this thread. We will be taking video of tonight and we might put something from that on our Youtube channel if it comes out good.

Don't be afraid to crank the mids on setting 3!

Can you guys sum up the feedback for me? Tough to parse 4000 posts :o

I'm thinking about getting a micro head with a headphone jack and aux in ... Pf500 with a 115 looks perfect on paper. I tend to dig ampeg. Basically this will just be a practice amp, but if the head sounds good with my gs412 I might end up gigging it.

How does the tone compare to the micro vr head?

Well I don't have experience with the micro vr but.....I just got my PF 500 yesterday and I'm playing through 2 115 cabs and the tone is amazing! The lows are full and not muddy, it rattles everything in the room, plenty of punch and power. I was using a Hartke LH500 with a tube preamp and this little guy totally blows that away. I also use some pedals too and there is absolutely no problems. This is a great amp! I bet it would sound awesome with a 4x12 also!

Just got home from the first gig with the PF500/PF115. It took me a little while to dial it in. I found a sweet spot on the knobs and I really don't know where they ended up. Afterward, I flipped my lid and I will look at it later. It made it through the night "with nary a hiccup". I really am glad I got it. I know they are all the same, but mine looks really cool! I have never used a smiley in my life. But that little guy sure looks like how I feel.:hyper:

I've had both. Sold the micro after a gig to fund a Markbass 210 to use with my PF-500. The micro stack is loud enough but not thick enough. 500 also has much more versatility as for settings etc. (ultra hi and lo, mid selector, etc).

I sold my micro-vr when I got my PF-500. I think they can cop similar tones, but the 500 has more flexibility. Overall, I think the 500 has a lower voicing, seems to have more emphasis in the lows and low-mids than the micro did.
