Ampeg PF500/PF350 - part 3, I think

I tried the PF-350, PF-500 and SVT 7 Pro at GC and ran them through the PF-210.
I decided to get the 7 Pro because I really preferred the tone over the others.
If I had to decide between the 350 and the 500, I would definitely go with the 500. The 5-way midrange knob really makes a difference and I really like the built-in compressor.
I think you get SO much more amp for another $100 that I wouldn't even hesitate.
I'm making no-interest payments on the 7 Pro, so the price tag isn't so painful and I feel like I got a lot of amp for the money, especially after a 15% holiday discount from MF.

Anybody hear anything about Ampeg releasing a pf15 as a double baffle design, like the old b15 design?
No, where'd that rumor come from? I believe a ported pf115 would be hard to tame with the relatvely high power pf amps.
Just thought it would be interesting based on all I've read about the double baffle design being the best sounding b15 match. What exactly do you mean by hard to tame? That it would fart out matched with a pf500?
Please excuse the ignorance of this comment, but I've been using my B-200R combo for the last seven years and I'm still getting used to different heads. I have and Micro VR and a PF 350. I use two 8ohm SVT-AV210 cabs and I may not have been getting the most out of my heads.
To run at either head at 4ohms and get the full power, do I connect both cabs to the head (one from each of the speaker inputs)? Or do I run the head to one speaker and go to the second cab from the out on the first cab? I've been going from one cab to the next.

Thanks! I was pretty sure I was OK as the specs said they were parallel but it never hurts to check.

Yep. I'm fine with the baffle design on the PF115, I think they really nailed it with this cab. I can get all sorts of tones out of this thing!
I'm still hanging on to some little glimmer of hope that they'll eventually add an all-tube head to the Portaflex lineup!

Got to try a PF500 today at Guitar Center. That thing has cojones! Great tone and power too. I lot of nice extras. They had the PF300 but I did not try it. While I really don't need one of these right now, I may get one in the future. The thing is smaller than I imagined and light too.
Ifbassyguy, sorry I misunderstood your question. Thought ur pf cut out completely. Happy to hear it works great for you coz it's fairly new and I haven't yet heard anyone complain. Let's hope it holds up for a long time for both of us. Good luck
RC, there's no real need to make double baffle cabs. These cabs sound so close as it is. They go a little lower than double baffle cabs, but other than that, they sound extremely close, even the PF210.
Just got a PF500 a few days ago... Bought it blind but I'm diggin' the tone already!

Played both a PF350 and PF500 through a PF210 and a variety of other cabinets. The PF500 and PF210 sounded incredible, but I ordered a PF115 instead. Sometime in the next day or two I'll be posting a ton of pedals for sale in the effects section to pay for this rig.
Finally received my replacement PF500 from GC last week. I took it to rehearsal last night, and it sounded amazing. Pushed a 2 x 15 cab with zero problems, and definitely had headroom to spare. It stays!

Got a chance to A/b the PF350 and PF500. Flat, they sounded the same, but the PF500 sounded quite a bit louder and I also preferred the mid switch and mute on the 500. I just sold my Eden and this is a front runner. Has that great Ampeg tone!
It's deserving of that success. Well thought-out features and great tone at an affordable price can only win.
I'll be upping that number before the year is out.
