Ampeg PF500/PF350 - part 3, I think

He he, if we both get one, then we can fire volleys of bass across Lake Washington at each other!

Consider that if any problems were to arise, you could just take it over the Ampeg HQ in Woodinville for service.

Ampeg HQ is in Woodinville? Haha, my location says Seattle, but I'm actually in Woodinville:D

I was going back and forth between this amp and the GK MB200. Is it bad that the location of their headquarters might sway my decision to buy?

Not at all. Actually, that's a very good decision should you ever need warranty work done ;)

Seriously though, I really wish the 350 had that mid switch. I don't need the extra power, but I do really like that mid switch. I also liked how the mid switch was subtle yet effective.

The PF500 and the GK sound very different from each other. The Kirkland GC has both in stock, so I'd spend some time with each one to find out which sound floats your boat.

What style of music do you play?

Hey, I'm up on Finn Hill of Kirkland and very close to both you and Ampeg/Loud.

I went in yesterday and tried out the PF350 and 500 but I didn't see any MB200s on the floor. Are they in back? They had the 350 in back and had to bring it out for me.

I wouldn't worry about the extra power. You can always keep the master volume down to whatever you want. I think the added features of the 500 are worth it.

I use my 600-watt Shuttle for bedroom practice and recording all the time and it's spiffy for that. Then for band practice I bring it up a couple of notches. Then for gigs another couple notches...

Plus, you never know when you may have to blast out an irritating neighbor!:bassist::hiding:

OK, Here's what I ran it at for the last rehearsal:

15db out
Gain 3:00
no low or high boost
comp 12:00
Bass 12:00
Mid 2 @ 2:00
Treble 12:00
(effect 12:00 to a bass pod chorus effect on the hot side for 1 tune)
Vol 3:00

I ran volume off the bass, but let or go for one tune with no issues at all. Running no boost or cut on an active bass. Daisy chained to a pair of SVT410HE cabs via Neutrik 12ga - horns off.

This thing impressed the hell out of the band with what it could do without ever getting warm.

I loved the tone of both when set flat. I like a bit more mid's in my tone and I found the mid EQ on the 350 to not quite get me where I wanted. The 500 mid switch did, though. The 500 was louder at lower settings. Both seemed to be built very well. I loved the layout, that everything was on the front (headphones, aux in). The knobs turned smoothly, there was no noise when turning on or off. I also liked the angled front face.

Very awesome altogether. I also like the finish on these heads.

Ya, the mid switch is pretty much an Ampeg staple at this point. I do quite well without it on the PF350, though. Its sweeps are very musical and right up my alley. But I certainly understand the mid selector's appeal.

I found a weird picture of a ported PF-115 on MF's site...both the 115 and 210 are sealed, right? What's up with the port?

I bought one of my 115 cabs from MF, the other from Zzounds (different sales), neither have a port. I suspect MF having a prerelease early mock-up pic from Ampeg or something. Strange.
