You guys think a 4 ohm 410 Portaflex cab would be the ticket? I suppose it would fill a void in the marketplace for a 4 ohm sealed 410, but it leaves no room for expansion. Then again, I guess if you're not looking for expansion...

Ampeg PF500/PF350 Pt II.5

Well, folks, I have had to order a replacement set of PF500 and PF115HE. The original pair are heading out of town.
My bass playing son found a band, wants the same rig
, and can't wait for the (literal) slow boat from China. I am selling him my rig and I get to wait for the next shipment.
I'm jamming infrequently and can afford to be without for a while.

FWIW, I do think that there is room for a sealed, 4-ohm 4x10, but I'm not sure that a Portaflex format would be ideal. I would definitely want side-mounted handles, and I probably would not expect it to be a flip top. I'd like to see something like a modern B-40. But that's just me. I'd probably use it with my V-4B, or a similar head.
I will note that Reeves makes a very nice sealed 4x10, although it comes in 8-ohm flavor only, I believe.

And mine also make a 2-ohm (or 8-ohm) 8x10! 
My band just rehearsed last night in our big company warehouse so I got to push my little Ampeg PF-350/Avatar SB112 rig to its limits.
We’re actually playing at a company party today so I wanted to see it the mini rig could cut the mustard by itself.
Only the vocals are mic’d, with all other sound levels adjusted to the drummers natural output. He’s 6’6, about 240 pounds and hits them pretty hard though.
Happy to report the rig sounded great! I cranked my GAIN and the MASTER both to 2:00 and it sounded perfect.
My bass was the Peavey Scorpio with the hot, passive Bass-Lines pickups and a new set of DR Low Rider strings.

i have a bit of a problem with my pf210 cabnet ... the speaker cable that came with the cab broke off in the input/output jack of the cab ... i got the sleave out but the tip of the cable is stuck inside the jack (first one of the parallel jacks) ... i tried fishing out the tip but had no luck getting it ( the tip actually moves around inside the jack) so i was running the cab at home from the second jack (daisy chained to my other 2x10 cab) and worked ... so i took it band practice lastnight ( also to give the cab to our guitar player(hes our repair guy) to take home to try to get the tip out) and hooked the cab up to my pf500's 1/4in output and hooked up my 4x10 to the speakon output ... everything was working fine then all of the sudden silence ! i quickly shut amp off and disconnected the pf210 and the 4x10 cabs ... i tried each cabs separatly and they both worked but left the pf210 cab unplugged for rest of band practice ... my question is would that tip thats broke off in the pf210's input/output jack cause an uneven load and cause the amp to shut down ( i didnt notice the fault light on the amp come on when speakers quit) i wont be using the pf210 cab again till the tip is out.... hope this all makes sense thanks
Ok, I've tried to research it, but could someone please explain what 'double baffle' means, or a link to a descent explanation? Thanks!
@dogmeat this sounds like it is probably just the tip in the connector that's your problem. Once that's out my guess is that it'll be fine.
The baffle is the board to which the speaker is attached. By having two baffle boards, it strengthens the cabinet so that it can't flex as much, meaning that the speaker, in turn, can't move sympathetically with the movement of the baffle. As I understand it, this helps the cab to go a tiny bit louder and should be slightly smoother sounding.
Someone please do correct me if I'm wrong though. This explanation is only the result of a quick googling.

I figure a well braced box should have about the same effect, and be lighter, but it is fun to say that you have a double baffle 
LOL! OK, you said to correct you, so here I am
The double baffle design was just a way to port the cab that Jess Oliver liked. The inner baffle has the speaker, and there are 8 slots cut into it around the speaker that send out the lows, then a second baffle is mounted in front of that one to direct the lows in front of the speaker. It's a bit of a long way to go to port a cab by today's standards, but it works and sounds great so nobody ever questions it.

Thanks Jimmy! The stuff I found came from people making bass bins for cars so I wasn't sure if I was right... Turns out I wasn't!
I think that's the same thing happened to me. I had to take the back of the cab apart to get at the board, just to tip it over. It seemed to work fine daisy chaining through the other 1/4" jack, but I was concerned. I posted a few photos a while back...
I do, I love the idea of a compact portable 410 with a fliptop head. it would be slightly larger then the 210 for obvious reasons. The SWR MM golight is just slightly larger then the pf210HE so there ya go. its also a sealed cab for those that dont know.
then you wouldnt have to move two cabinets to get the same power from the head.
I mean why lug around two cabs when you can get the same thing from one?
I took the board out and tipped it over to shake out the tip...
I took out the screws and pulled the back plate to expose the board, pulled and marked the connectors, and then I had access...
A little shaking was then all it took. In hindsight I'd tip the cab first and try that way...
