As Jimmy said, the tweeter gets in the way of doing this. But here's my suggestion. You'd only use one tweeter anyway, right? So remove the tweeter from one cab, and then the 7Pro will fit! :cool: You can still stack the cab with the tweeter on top, since of course there's no issue when the amp is facing "up."

+1 I just tried a lot of various portaflex combos today. Ended up with my old head (a lm II )and a new ampeg pf-210he . I went into the shop thinking I would get a new pf500 and a new mb 112 cab, but ears told me differently and that new 210he is fantastic, everything I was looking for sound-wise and goes great with just about any head (I tried 5 different ones ...mb,portaflex,tc, micro vr and gk). Ampeg really did a great job on these, and I have to say I was originally intrigued by these thanks to JimmyM's great sound clips of his own 1x15 and pf350. I did not get to try the pf500 (they only had the 350), maybe in the future.
The two tens sound really full and fat and think on these (very 1x15 sounding to me and even my lm was giving me nice warm tones for walking lines and clear punchy solos with the two 10's).

**Edited a couple of observations after spending more time with these cabs**


My replacement PF115 arrived today, and I must say I'm finally impressed. What a difference between this one and the one I sent back! Out of the box it had a good warm sound, and though not quite as deep as my BT15C, it was every bit as warm and "loose". The first one I had was very tight sounding and farted out when you gave it any bass or volume. After awhile... the farts turned into distortion. This one sounds exactly as it should! I tested it with my Starfire bass on the neck pup with the tone down for maximum thump through my B15 (also loaded with a PF15 purple driver) and it took all the low end I threw at it. Very nice! And with both cabs having the same drivers... there is only a very subtle difference between the double baffle cab and the PF cab. Bypassing the internal crossover on the PF115, most people probably couldnt tell the difference, esp. in a gig setting. To my ears, the double baffle projects the mids and highs a little better, but not by much. The only downside of using the PF driver/cab is that they do generate more clean volume and low end, which has created a couple of new rattles in my B15 I need to track down. Likely the chassis tray... but no biggie!

I'm having the same issue; the top of the head rattled while I had it mounted to the cabinet lid, so I removed it and the rattle stopped. I think the lid of the amp chassis was vibrating as I could place my hand on the top the amp, and the rattle would cease.

Not sure if putting some type of foam under the amp lid will help any, but I'm not sure if removing the lid will void the warranty. Has anyone else tried this, or come up with another solution?

Removing the lid won't void the warranty but using it that way is not a good idea in any way, shape or form. Check all screws and nuts for tightness (don't overtighten but they should be snug), etc.

While it obviously sucks that your cab was not working right, I am glad you got the real deal. Thanks for hanging in there.

Since you have the unique experience of the PF speaker in a double-baffle cab, do you think that the PF line should have a cab with a double-baffle? Or, since you think they sound so similar, would that just be a waste?

+1 Make sure all the attaching screws are good and tight. Another "safe" thing to try is to slide some foam rubber (or similar) under the amp between the feet.

On my '67 BT15C, I did have to put some small pieces of weather stripping along the inside edges of the chasis "lid" (the metal housing) to stop a bad vibration that I couldn't kill - but I would be hesitant to try that with a new PF still under warranty.

My latches on my pf115 rattles a little when I turn up the volume. Didn't do it until I mounted the head on the lid. Took the head and now it still rattles. No big worry though. I just throw a black towl over the top, so it drapes over the latches and it stops the rattle. Plus it keeps my head from vibrating off.

I should try that PF115 speaker in a double baffle cab. I have a feeling I'll get similar results to Stiles, though.

Well, folks, I have had to order a replacement set of PF500 and PF115HE. The original pair are heading out of town.

My bass playing son found a band :bassist:, wants the same rig :hyper:, and can't wait for the (literal) slow boat from China. I am selling him my rig and I get to wait for the next shipment. :crying: I'm jamming infrequently and can afford to be without for a while.
