Ampeg PF500/PF350

lol! it's as if you and i are bizarro brothers living in parallel but opposite worlds ;) except that's exactly how i heard them, although i can't say i struggled with the 500, but i get your reason for digging the 350 the most.

Lol! For real right! Here, I'll change my user title for you.

Anyway, I'm super tempted to replace my LMII with a pf350, but I need to see if the 350 behaves with my co-axial Bag End cab. I'm afraid the tweeter may by a little over the top with that head.

about the same tonal quality imho. however, the vt is kind of tough to dial in on the fly and get a good sound right away while the pf350 is much easier to do so.

Absolutely.

I actually sold my VT because it was just way too finicky for me. I had issues dialing in a sound that didn't take away punch, and the treble on that thing was just too clanky.

I found that the pf350 had no such problems for a "knob nooner" like myself.

Hey guys, sorry for this question. It might not totally be the right place to ask this but in a way it's related to the Portaflex.

I bought a PF350 about a month ago and I'm about to pull the trigger on a PF cab. I'm still not sure if I should get the 115 or the 210. I was wondering if the 115 takes more volume to get a decent sound out of it than the 210, or perhaps is it the other way around. The reason for asking is that I live in an apartment and although I usually practice through headphones I'd like to sometimes be able to play the head through a cab at lower volume when my neighbors are not home. Does a 15 inch speaker need more juice the 2 10 inches speakers? I'm also concerned the extra punch the 210 will give might be heard a little more than the 115. Is that relevant?

Thanks.

I've had a little time with my PF500 and the matching 115 cab so wanted to check in. I like this combination alot. I bought the cab with the head so I could have the convenience of the portaflex system. And I like the way the 115 sounds. Debated on the 210, but I'm such a dyed-in-the-wool B-15 guy and so thought this might be my answer to a gigable B-15 format with modern power delivery. So far so good. I think it will become my go to rig, as is, for most gigs (fretless electric with 4 piece acoustic guitar/keyboard band). Currently using a Shuttle 6 into Berg HT210, which ain't no bad rig.

I like the sound and features of the Ampeg and chose the 500 over the 350 for the power and added features. Contrary to other posts in this thread I hear quite a difference with the mid freqs, typical Ampeg (like my V4B), but of course you have to either cut or boost the mids to really hear the differences, like 9:00 or lower cut and 3:00 or higher boost. I notice the fan noise in my practice room when I'm working on things at low volumes so as not to wakey the wifey, but not an issue on the bandstand. I also notice that the master volume needs to be used over it's whole range. At first it seems funny to be running the gain and master so high, but there's plenty more to come after 9:00! It also seems to me that the input pad for active instruments is a big excessive, but I think I can live with it.

I can see that I will probably want to run 2 cabs for gigs with the louder jam band. Don't think I'll run out and buy another PF cab, although I'm real tempted to try the 210. I have lots of other 8 ohm cabs that I will try first: SVT410HEN, SVT115E, Berg HT210, BagEnd S15, SWR WM 115T. We'll try a little mix-match and see what sounds best. I'm betting on the SVT115E as it is probably most similar. The PF would stack well on that cab too. I'll A/B the cabs stand alone too, including the PF and get back to y'all.

So far I'm glad I bought this rig. Now to spend some time gigging and learning how it really stacks up (pun intended).

I have the PF500 (see my video through the 410HLF classic). Was wondering if I couple it with a pf115 if that will be enough for my gigs to 200 people bars. We are a rock cover band (www.rockboxband.com). What do you think?

coupling the pf115 with the svt 410hlf is useless in every way. the 410hlf goes lower and is considerably louder. the only thing that goes with the 410hlf is another 410hlf. unfortunately, that means a second amp because it would be a 2 ohm load.

+1

This advice can't be plus-one'd enough. If you get an extra cab, get the same you already have.

I look at this as the cilinders of an engine. More for more power, but the all the cilinders are exactly the same. Same with cabs.

I'm sorry. I meant to replace my 410 for portability and smaller houses. A rock band playing bars (no bass running through the PA) to 200 or so people.

I'll never get rid of my 410 as it sounds great. But if I can put the porta in portaflex and still be heard ...
