Ampeg SGT-DI

Whoops!

Edit:
will have to wait till later for sound+play, but it's a touch bigger than the SCR, and a touch lighter too. Online specs say it's half the weight which is impressive 2.6lbs for the SCR and 1.2lbs for the SGT, but I'm not sure how accurate those are. It definitely FEELS lighter, the SCR is a bit of a brick.

Comes with footpads not applied (cool), comes with USB cable + power supply. It's nice to have something come in a box with all you need.

I’m sure some of you got the email - Ampeg SVT plug-in suite on sale for a few more days at shop-us.Ampeg.com.

What would be the purpose of getting the SVT Suite if one were only using the SGT-DI by itself? The SGT-DI is not a DAW- the USB is for IR loading and firmware updates.

One could plug the SGT-DI analog output into a DAW interface, and then use the Suite, but I'm not sure what the point of that would be. Stacking the SGT-DI tones into the amps and cabs available in the Suite? Wouldn't that be redundant?

Yo dog we heard you like SVTs so we put an SVT inside your SVT so you can bass while you bass!

Thanks for sharing the pic, and congrats, Kase! Have fun tonight!

I thought, "What in the world is that French phrase doing on the SGT-DI box?"

LE CAISSON DE BASSES TOUT-EN-UN

According to Google Translate, it means "The all-in-one subwoofer" ???

Can any of our French-speaking TB'ers give a better translation?

Well, I’m french so I can chime in. Despite the fact they wanted to translate “The All-in-one Bass Box”, they botched it. “Le caisson de basse”, in french, is indeed a subwoofer. To translate “bass box” as in a pedal…. Then I’d use something like “le boitier pour bassistes”, aka the box for bassists. Or “la pedale pour bassists”.

Bass box just doesn’t translate word for word.

Caisson can mean subwoofer but it also has other meanings (defintions), one of them being box.

Dude. I’m french. And yes, you’re from Montreal so probably know french too.
Yes you’re right, but in that situation, we’d NEVER use the word caisson for that particular pedal or “box”. Makes no sense.

I work for a french multinational and getting engineering texts translated is a daunting task. Having a "we all agree" consensus is a real challenge. It's not a perfect science.

I was wondering that too. But also i'm always really wary of pedals that have a software component to it. I always wonder how long will any company support that software and what happens in 10 years, 20 years? The obsolescence of old software not running on the modern devices/computers. Will people have to hunt down old software repositories to do upgrades and run an emulator of old Windows to get it working? Will Ampeg still keep these files online in some way in a decade? How long does support actually last?

Will you purchase a second hand version of this pedal in 10 years, where someone has updated all the cab sims and screwed them up, making it hard to even test / check, but to fix it you have to get an old copy of windows, run it in emulation mode, find the old original software and cab files to upload them. Maybe even locate a computer with a USB port if they are still around. It is always something that makes me hesitate buying this type of pedal, rather than something that is totally 100% analogue and won't have these obsolescence issue happen.

These sorts of things always make me take a step back and wait to see. I'm sure the market is there for people that don't care or worry about this, but it is something I think about.

It’s an analog pedal. It just happens to have an IR loader. The worst that happens is you won’t be able to load any more IRs into it. But how many do you need? The ones that come with it would do me fine.
