Ampeg SGT-DI

@KaseOfBass: Please let us know how that goes through Khan DI. I think similarly, through a reddi it would be great as well.

Ordered...this seems to be everything I wanted the SCR-DI to be! I had actually moved away from my pedalboard using the Ampeg sims in the HX Stomp to a rack mount Ampeg SVP-CL preamp, but I may go back to the pedal board after this arrives. This through the Khan DI will be quite the nice pedalboard rig!

Looks like Yamaha is breathing some new life into the brand. Good to see Ampeg get competitive again
Ampeg had the old black and white retro website years longer than it should have. The new site is so much better across the board, bigger product images, better descriptions, the works, and was exactly what Yamaha needed to do in the quest to update the Ampeg brand. And now, this new product is generating quite the buzz among us bassists! We wonder what else Yamaha has in store.

Looke like a cool pedal. Very impressive sounding clips. Normally I wouldn't think the world needs yet another SVT "amp-in-a-box" pedal but Ampeg is the exception. It makes sense that Ampeg should offer something like this and the feature set seems very well thought-out.

Personally I would be far more enthusiastic if someone offered a similar product based on a Hiwatt with a speaker sim based on the old Fane-loaded cabs. I mean, we've got LOTS of options for Ampeg and Fender'ish amp/cab-sims from various pedal manufacturers but fans of 60s/70s British bass tones have very little to choose from except the real thing. To me there are three main "schools" of classic, vintage bass tube amps: Ampeg, Fender and Hiwatt. The latter seems to be completely forgotten when pedal manufacturers design this type of pedals. Maybe it's more of a niche market but "the Hiwatt tone" was a huge part of the signature tone for many of the bass player legends from those golden days of rock (and prog!).

I like this pic from the manual. Plug your SGT-DI into your SVT and bypass it's own preamp. What a great idea!!!!

Note Yamaha bass and mixer required ;)

I'm not sure if you're being serious or not but it's kinda funny that Ampeg suggests we should replace the real tube preamp of an SVT with an SVT-sim pedal.:D Extra points for the BB-bass though!!;) The Ampeg-Yamaha connection is certainly starting to look interesting!

SGT can be blended, too.

Really? How? Because that's the ONE feature I personally thought was missing from this pedal: The ability to blend in a clean/dry signal at the balanced outout (like you can on for example the BDDI). Am I missing something here? Of course, ANY pedal can be blended by using external gear (and an extra channel on the mixer) but a dry/wet blend for the balanced output would make this pedal FAR more interesting to me for a quick, hassle free ONE channel setup.

So I'm glad I didn't order the Origin Bassrig 64 last night. I wish the SGT-DI had a non-ampeg-ish sound option - more like a bassman. I'm surprised that you can't switch to some favorites.

Will this device be getting software updates?

The Rickenbacker website is very Web 1.0, but I find it endearing if not very nice to navigate. The Alembic website is even more rudimentary! Gear brands sometimes lag surprisingly behind what is considered acceptable for websites.

I've been watching this pedal release with very mixed feelings.

I have a SCR-DI for a couple years but have always missed a lot of features.
Last year i have build a custom switchbox with DI output, AMP(no cab sim) output and Headphone outputs. Lehle transformers for the DI. Bought a cab sim pedal and a "more me" headphone amp. Big heavy pedal board with powersupply and have been looking to add a broughton SVPre as a replacement for the SCR-DI for mid range sweep.

And this pedal does it al...

Could have saved myself so mutch trouble if i had known this was around the corner.
Pedal seems fantastic though.
will probably get one after i have sold some stuff...

You were on the same path as Ampeg, but they were ahead.

It's gives a good feeling when you can simplify your signal-chain, less weight, less decisions to make, more focus on playing. ;)

Yes, although i know my way around audio equipment and electronics, the weight and hassle of moving it around became a problem.
That resulted in me recently just sticking some velcro to a thin piece of wood and just put the SCR-DI with a opto comp and a tuner on it powered by a daisy chained boss adapter. That would fit inside my normal backpack.

The big pedalboard has been siting at home waiting on some upgrades like the broughton svpre.

I'm gonna have to rethink some things but replacing the SCR-DI on the small piece of wood with a SGT is probably all I'm gonna need.
Maybe get a smaller decent pedalboard to replace the big one and just put the SGT, a markbass compressor, tuner and decent powersupply on it.

My current pedalboard consists of a TC Electronic tuner -> Keeley Bassist comp -> Darkglass VMT -> SansAmp BDDI V2.

I feel like this Ampeg SGT could get me in the same territory, in less footprint, all I’d need is to throw it in my gigbag with a tuner instead of carrying my pedalboard…. Interesting, will probably give it a try!

Yes even simpler, I do want to try that 1 knob compressor of the SGT though. I expect to need a better compressor pedal than the SGT provides but will have to try it first.
