Ampeg SGT-DI

We wonder what other new products are in store.

So far Yamaha have released the SVTav head although I believe that was already in development, revamped their entire combo range and now this.

I suspect that the PF solid state amps could be next. Essentially the SGTDI with a power section would be an awesome amp head, but I'm sure Yamaha could take it further.

I would seriously consider something like this if they get it into THR10 territory, but for bass only. My THR10 is top notch.

I saw this thing yesterday. Looks promising. I don't know that I personally would rush to grab one. I have, however, been hankering for some good warm tube tone, so I just purchased an Effectrode Blackbird and waiting on it to arrive. But this Ampeg is LOADED with features!

I'll be curious to hear how these are. Funny, I just ordered a REDDI yesterday after much research. I saw this today and at first wondered if I should have waited a day. But then when I watched the BassTheWorld video and by the time he got to the USB interface I found myself wondering if Ampeg didn't have a committee meeting to discuss whether it should have a feature to help you wash your dishes.

I have a hard time trusting anything that has this many features on it. I was attracted to the REDDI because it's just a single circuit that does one thing, and has a reputation for doing it very well. Here's hoping I was right!

This preamp feels like ampeg was listening. The origin bassrig is great, but missed a lot of features that could have set it apart and made it unbeatable.

I had a bassrig 64 and it sounded better than my Olympic iiis, but with it missing a loop, aux in, headphones, and switchable ir (and foot switch grit), I had to keep the Olympic. Ampeg seems to have listened to users complaints.

I'll likely get one of these when they go up for sale here in the classifieds....

I'm in a similar spot as you. I have a VTBass DI and think it does a very good job, probably better overall than the SDR-DI. I really like the idea of an Ampeg-branded B15/SVT pedal, but at $150 more than the VTBass DI, I probably will stick with that.

Maybe on a MF Stupid Deal of the Day in a few months...

I've looked at the VT bass quite a bit. May still pick one up.

Wow...literally 3 days after receiving my SCR-DI :banghead:

Send it back!

My main issue with the SCR-DI is how easy it is to overdrive the input. I play 18v active basses and I struggle with this issue - yes, you can back the volume knob off a bit to take the edge off, but I do feel like my tone is impacted when playing live with the SCR-DI. You can engage the -15db pad, but that is so much drop that it makes it hard to manage - and I think it impacts the tone as well. A smaller pad would have been much more useable I think. I LOVE the unit other than that. If the SGT has fixed that issue, I may have to pick one up. The additional features in the SGT are awesome, and this box is pretty close to checking every box for me.

I am rather conservative in tone preference and a set-and-forget, lost in the mix and room dynamics believer. I won't be jumping in any time soon. Although it is amazing what they can squeeze into a pedal, the lack of preamp out for sims and cost are also factors. That being said, I believe the resale value of my SCR-DI just went down ;)!
