Ampeg SGT-DI

Aux only gets fed to the line out/phones ¼” jack; it does not get fed to the DI/XLR out. So, in a setup like mine, where I use the line out/phones jack > Khan DI > FOH (or wherever), yes the aux would get passed through. I’m not using the preamp out as it doesn’t pass the cab sim through.
I would be interested in the same set up with my Khan. To clarify, the line out has cab sim? I had thought it was only on the XLR out.

Edit: I think you confirmed this a few posts later.

FYI, summary of the in- and outputs description in the manual:
- Aux Input is unaffected by the Preamp, SGT, or Cab circuits, and is routed to the Line Out/Phones output only.
- Preamp Out: includes the Compressor, Preamp, and SGT circuits. The Cab/User IR and Aux In signals are not included in this output signal.
- Direct Out: carries the full Compressor, Preamp, and SGT signals, as well as the Cab/User IR (when enabled).
- Thru (Out): to send a dry, instrument level signal out, such as to a tuner or parallel effects chain.
- Line Out/Phones: either as a
  1. mono, line level, Line Out (with a mono, TS connection), or
  2. stereo headphones output (with a stereo, TRS phones connection). This output includes the Compressor, Preamp, SGT, Cab/User IR (when active), as well as the Aux Input signal.

If running from the SGT’s line out to an amp, does the cab sim darken the tone too much?

Will probably depend on the used cab after the amp.
When using a full range flat frequency response ish cab it will probably be fine.
When using something like a single 15 of 810 without tweeters it will probably be to dark, depending on the used IR ofcourse.
You could also use an IR with just a high pass filter and no speaker sim. IR responses are a kind of filters that you can customize on PC. Can be made to sound like a speaker, but could do any filtering/EQing you want basically

why not just run the line out to your amp? That's really the purpose, I think - in live use. Run the line out to your stage amp for 'monitoring', and the DI to the PA for the FOH bass tone. It's a VERY nice capability to have, I think.

That is what the pre-amp out is for. The line out is also headphone out and has cab sim and aux input.

I’ve done this many times before and never had that problem.

well I do it too with my BDDI V2 which technically has a built in speaker simulation in the SansAmp technology. But I was wondering how it would pan out with the SGT-DI :)

I am guessing if you wanted to use this just for FOH and not have it affect the tone or gain staging of your amp then just use the THRU output jack?

yeah or just through the Preamp Out to your amp if you want the SGT’s color.

Someone on Instagram floated the idea of adding a Class D power amp to the SGTDI and making it a Portaflex series head to go with the cabs. My SGT won't be here til tomorrow, but even just from the demo videos (several of which I've watched more than a few times in anticipation of getting mine), that sounds like an idea I'd be totally on board for my PF115HE stack.

Just sayin'.

I have a very hot preamp in the bass and I don't like futzing with a bunch of different gain stages live. If I get one of these, it would mostly be a desktop amp but I do like the idea of it basically being a backup to my amp if the amp were to fail or also to use for ampless gigs if I ever have one of those weird things lol.

Good idea. If they put this into a head with a Class D 700-800 watt power amp, it would probably be a big seller. I don’t really want the pedal, but I’m looking at getting a new amp at the end of the year and if they did it I would be tempted.

I'd gladly own both if given the opportunity. Amp for the road, pedal for the studio.

If you guys were gonna use a power amp between this thing and an ampeg 410 cabinet for a live show, which one would you reccomend? I have a fender rumble 500 head and im wondering if the power amp in that thing is worth it or should i upgrade it.

For the last 15 years I've been using a Tech 21 VT Bass going into the power section of an old Ampeg B2R and it's worked out flawlessly. I plan to do the same with the SGT-DI.

In my experience, as long as it's reliable and has sufficient power for my needs... a power amp is a power amp is a power amp. "Upgrading" would only get you A.) more power, B.) possibly lighter weight, and C.) better reliability. If you don't need any of the three, then I'd stick with it.

I'm planning to run my (future) SGT into the power amp section of my Boss Katana 210. That's how I run my GTK currently.

Not sure why you’d want a cab sim blend. When playing through an amp and cab, 100% of your sound goes to the cab, that’s what a cab sim is emulating.
Any sound niggles you get with the lack of cab blend, just tweak with EQ.
But for FOH It´s a good and handy feature. You would not use the cab sim for the cab onstage. You need you use the preamp out. The DI It´s affected by the cab sim
