Ampeg SGT-DI

Also, see the Ultra Lo switch, when set to “cut”, it cuts at 40Hz. Would you compare that to a HPF somehow? I would imagine it could help cleaning up the boomy low-end….
I have a HPF on my iAmp Classic...it's subtle - so much so that it's always on. Not sure if it's the subtle rolloff or perhaps the frequency it's at.

The cut on the SGT is NOT subtle. I felt the 810 Cab sim was excessively boomy and wanted to use that to tweak it, but from flat to cut it really took most of the air out of the balloon.

Instead I'm going to edit the roll off for that Cab in the Ampeg Editor digitally.

I could see it being useful if I'm sending a post and direct signal to the FOH to be blended, otherwise just not my cup of tea.

Can’t you compensate that a tad with the EQ? Like the bass knob, or low mids?

I don't speak the language but still found this video amazingly helpful.
This is probably the best example I've seen of it's svt tone so far it's still slightly buzzy or fuzz like sounding at times here but its not nearly as bad as the other demos I've seen so far. I'm wonder if that's just them using way too much overdrive or if it's just the style of clipping it uses is Abit too harsh and unnatural?

Using the grit & [grit] level dials will allow as much or as little as you want.

i just received mine. did some quick comparisons to my Origin Super Vintage. they both sound very good and basically have the same tone. The SGT seems to be quite a bit quieter noise-wise, but not so sure about liking the SGT's dirt yet (especially at higher dirt settings).

these are the two I’m trying to decide between.
I’m in the UK so the SGT isn’t out yet.

which is better for classic rock tripe tones?
Which is better for Motown like tones?

IMO, they're both very capable. if you don't need all the bells and whistles of the SGT-DI the smaller sized Origin would be my choice, although the sweep-able mids on the SGT is very nice.

Still undecided.
I like the different cab sims on offer and the B15 model option of the Ampeg but do worry if it’s rugged enough as I know the Origin stuff is pro level and solid.

If you like a straight ahead SVT sound and you want to play live, sending cabsim to FOH and run an on stage amp, I’d go with the origin. The amp eq is a really nice feature. Origin is less pedalboard real estate also.

If you want the B15 tones also and you will use it primarily for practice then the aux in and headphone out I think makes the SGT the winner. I am a bit concerned about robustness of some of the switches under rough use, especially the cabsim volume, which is you are using to FOH you may have to adjust.
