Ampeg SVT 450H

The 450H is 450watts @4 OhMS and the 7Pro is rated @1000 watts 4 OHMS. The 450H I have running an Ampeg 610HlF cab. For its power it sounds great. I also have the SVT4PRO which is rated at 1200 watts and can run (2) 810E in stereo. It depends on what cabs you'll be running. The 450H was a good buy (new) for me and is a great mid size amp. I would be a little more selective when going past 1000 watts. IMO Ampeg can be up and down in quality......
The SVT-350H/450H is probably the most hated Ampeg amp on TalkBass, probably a good 80% dis rating.
I think it's an adequate amp, but I certainly wouldn't get one on purpose unless it was extremely cheap. I got a new SVT-350H for $289 on sale at GC when they were discontinued and probably wouldn't have bought it knowing what I do now about it.
I would like to chime in on this one, I have a SVT450H and I like what I get out of it, maybe some people on here just don't know how to EQ an amp properly??? I chose the 450H over quite a few other picks and granted it took me a little while to EQ it, it now sounds really great, I have a buddy that plays through SVT-CL and gave me hell for a while about buying the 450H and now he is pleasantly surprised at how it sounds, so to each his own and I'm not gonna buy something based on the fact "If someone else like's it or Not" It's my money and my ears so if you like the SVT450H then go for it, Mine has never failed me....
Many a time. Garbage. Good luck playing a gig with them, they fart out at low volumes.
Like i said its litterally just a a b2r in a fancy case.
How big are the gigs? If you really need to push volume the 350/450h aint gonna do it, I have played to some big crowds (not to sound cocky) and there is no way that amp would hold up to the gigs.
Furthermore back to the b2r. Its lighter and cheaper. and its the same amp. Literally.
The svt 450 is a joke.
I don't think that's it. The big complaint about the 350 was that it was just gutless and the 450 was supposed to fix that. Whether it did or not, I don't know, as I haven't used it, but the 350 certainly deserved its reputation for low volume. I use mine for a practice amp.
These also had some of the noisiest 24V fans ever made.
if the 450h works for you, don't worry about what tb'ers say. they're not the ones playing it...you are. and nobody really cares what you use on a gig.

I have an SVT-450H (US made) and it's worked great at all my gigs. I run it into a 610HLF and it's got more than enough power for my stage volume.
The 450H & PRO 7 are two completely different amps that would possibly work better for different cabs too. Might depend on what cab you want to run.

Had a B2R. Solid State Ampeg tone, if that's what you want. I was running a bunch of effects into it to make it sound better so I just ended up getting an SVT-2 Pro. IMO, the 7 Pro was the best sounding Ampeg Hybrid but still doesn't really compare to an all tube Ampeg.
You've really got to decide the Ampeg tone you're going for.

I'm assuming that's a 4-Ohm cabinet.
I'd also be interested in knowing what circuit changes were made to the B-2R to make it the B-2RE, if it was just a power-stage beef-up or if there was something else going on as well.
I've always been cruising for a clean, matching Ampeg 4x10 4-Ohm cab with decent efficiency to use with the SVT-350H head as a small-gig setup, as it's an attractive amp and sounds OK to me aside from the low volume. I don't know anyone who uses the graphic EQ on these, which is just as well as the tips are almost always broken off anyway.
the 450h is a nice amp man! not totally on par with the SVT but its the 3rd best thing i recons cuz iv got the 3pro and thats proper sound! its never let me down yet!
