Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Was using the sansamp BDDI model in my Bass Pod XT pro, but recently been toying with an EH Deluxe Bass Big Muff... sounds damn good through headphones (in my apartment). Cant wait til I get to hear it in realtime with my cab at rehearsal tonight.

Also got an MXR Blowtorch coming today (hopefully) to play with tonight as well. Looking for a real heavy aggressive sound. I like the idea of using the SVT's own overdrive to add some 'plushness' and growl to the bass, but use dirt pedals with blend knobs to add a more high gain edge to the upper frequencies...

Like the Ampeg is my tasty cut of steak and the right pedal will make for the perfct 'gravy' to compliment it

The only dirt I use is a B3K and honestly, I don't dial in much dirt on that, it's really more of a clean boost with some slight grit. I keep my gain in the 7 Pro at around 230 so most of the grit I get is from pushing the preamp tube in the 7 pro.

Here she is: Heritage SVT410Hlf, with a 7pro.. This is my new favorite setup for sure.. Seems like this cab was designed for this kind of head. They match so well.

The PF800 matches really well with the PF410hlf also. I am now converted though. If I had ever listened to a 7pro through a SVT410Hlf I dont think I would have ever parted with the first 2 :hiding:

After comparing the PF800 to the 7Pro side by side with the HSVT410HLF the 7pro is the clear winner. That single tube makes a huge amount of difference. Not that the PF800 sounds bad, because it sounds great too. I just agree now with the other folks that say the 7 sounds better than the PF series.

Anyway I will take a number when possible. Thanks!

I've been considering trading in on a new V4B, but after last nights gig I don't think I can pull the trigger! Man, you can get alot out of that 1 tube. The headroom on this amp is addicting. I might try a Tung Sol or GE in there, just because I have to tinker, but it is a fantastic gigging amp as it is. Its kind of DB750ish in its ability to be muscular, round, and textured, yet totally solid in the lows at the same time. I would love to hear some experiences with the DI, I havent been in a situation where I've used it yet. The couple of FOH gigs I've had lately, we mic'ed the cab.

Having bought a V4B last week and comparing it to my 7 Pro, they are similar and yet different. To my ears, the V4B has more harmonic fullness and has that power tube sound that most SS amps can't really get right. I see the V4B as being better for recording or for small venues where a band isn't going to play at high volume. Truly, both sound like Ampegs and the differences are more flavor than total change.

regarding the DI I still have to try it at home, direct in my m-audio to the computer...

Live I played it 3 times with the SVT7 DI, all time post eq and it sounded good on stage through the monitor so far. No bad noise/ground issues so far and no need to engage the ground lift switch. Last show the band who played before us didn't brought any amp and I had to share my head and the sound was cool and nice in front. (I don't care for my cab, but I don't like to share my amp head...) The DI worked well so far !!
