Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

My gigs aren't always close to home but we rarely drive farther than 3-4 hours and we wouldn't take a bus even if we could get one at a reasonable price because we have other ways of getting there. And to be honest, you'll be competing with dudes who offer Prevost and Eagle buses, and while your buses may be cheaper, I think they fall into that void where it'll be too expensive for struggling new bands and not ritzy enough for bands who can afford renting a Prevost.

However, I'm certainly not the last word on this and I'm not trying to crush any dreams. But I'll tell you...to me it sounds like buying yourself a job.

Thanks Jimmy.. yeah the more I talk about it with others it does seem like there is not much market for it. .. yet... i guess there is fine line to be able to get one but if you can buy a van and a trailer for 5000 and a bus that has beds and wifi for 5000 i was thinking bands would go this route.. i will definitely have to do more research..

My svt 7 pro sounded great for about a year, then it started doing the thing that everyone is talking about where it cuts out during performances. I remember the gig where I just got tired of it and switched back to my swr 350. I counted how many times it turned off and turned back on during an hour and a half set. 28 times!
It's just been sitting in my back room collecting dust. I bought it from a rep, so there was nothing I could do as far as warranty coverage was concerned. The certified repair shop quoted me like 350 to replace the power board and said that d class stuff is tough to work on so they just replace the board.
I really miss all that head room though. With the band I play with the most I'm always pushing the swr to the max, so it always sounds a bit insecure if you know what I mean. I kind of want to get it going again, but don't want to sink the money into it to have the same thing happen again in a year.
Kind of have a feeling that ampeg isn't going to be jumping through any hoops to help me out.

Ported and with a tweeter, it's super crazy low, takes a crazy high amount of power to really make efficient use out of it...

I use one paired with an HE - (traded my HLF, wanted a more 'old school' vibe.). it sounds good, though. they're stupid heavy cabs, though (PN410s)

it is supposed to be a 5 year warranty so you know.. mine was covered with no problem

Thanks for the response tomydacat. yeah. I bought mine from a rep who ordered for me as a favor to get a pretty good discount, so there was no receipt involved with the transaction because I don't think they're supposed to do that. I was left with an amp with no warranty or receipt. Last time I ever do that.

well shouldnt he have a receipt then i mean if he is a friend of your s i would think he would do something .. maybe im wrong.. but yeah ALWAYS have a receipt or be in the system showing you PAID FOR IT ,, well how much to fix it ?

just got my svt 7 pro in the mail yesterday! Bought it used from guitar center for $437 after shipping. I have e couple weeks of warranty, may buy the 1 year warranty for $40. It showed up just before band practice, plugged it up to the 410 hlf and rocked it! My first ampeg head experience was a good one. I was running a behringer bvt4500h and it did ok, but the 7pro really brought it to life. With twice the wattage im enjoying overdriving the cab with sensible volume and tone controls, really cuts through the mic'd drums and 2 guitar cabs. lovin it. No need for a 2nd cab

LOL! I wish I could claim golden ears, but I can't, especially now that my perfect pitch is well on its way to deterioration. But while I will say that what really matters for good sound is your playing, I've played a 7 Pro and SVT-CL into the same cab at the store, and there is most definitely a difference that I think most people could pick up on, just as there's also a difference with the 4 Pro that most could pick up on. The gap is growing smaller, but it's there.

And the Heritage 810e is THE 810. Used to be the best 810 were the early flatbacks loaded with CTS alnicos, but the H810e matches it for tone and blows it away in power handling. IMHO.

anybody here have any favorite dirt pedals they like to use with there 7pro?

Was using the sansamp BDDI model in my Bass Pod XT pro, but recently been toying with an EH Deluxe Bass Big Muff... sounds damn good through headphones (in my apartment). Cant wait til I get to hear it in realtime with my cab at rehearsal tonight.

Also got an MXR Blowtorch coming today (hopefully) to play with tonight as well. Looking for a real heavy aggressive sound. I like the idea of using the SVT's own overdrive to add some 'plushness' and growl to the bass, but use dirt pedals with blend knobs to add a more high gain edge to the upper frequencies...

Like the Ampeg is my tasty cut of steak and the right pedal will make for the perfct 'gravy' to compliment it

I have a Boss OC-3 that I used with my 7 and 810 on the drive channel, with a little bit of the octave turned up. It doesnt sound as good as say a Russian BigMuff (which I also have) but it has this really cool extra harmonic richness. I use it to get this tone:
