If this is sarcasm or an attempt to be witty, it's pretty much impossible to tell at this point, so I'll bite.

That switch is an input pad/attenuator that reduces the strength of the input signal by roughly 15 decibels (dB). It's commonly used to prevent signal clipping from basses with hot onboard preamps.

The dB acronym has nothing to do with Dolby Labs or any of their old "noise reduction" technologies. It is a measure of relative signal level.

As I was reading through the thread and I was hoping someone would point this out. It's for matching the input for use with Active or Passive basses.

IMHO the 7 Pro comes the closest out of any "micro" I've heard at nailing the SVT tone.

Ya, me too. PF series is good at it, too, but there does seem to be a little extra zing for me with the 7 Pro. Maybe it's headroom, but I also think the tube circuit helps. It's just one but it's a real working tube and not a glory tube.

I've been a big fan of multi-band compression (Trace Elliot SMX, TCE Spectracomp, etc...). I even have a Rane DC24 I can patch in if I want, but I was wondering what you guys thought of this optical compressor. I've never used optical before, but I'm game to try it. No sense adding to the signal chain if I don't have to.

The compressor on the 7pro to me is AWESOME and at first i thought i was clipping cuz the light kept coming on but the more i fiddled with it the more i found it is just letting youknow it is working.. HAHA.. when I A&Bd it to the little marks it just seemed to have more of everything. head room ..flavor.. and warmth.. and with my EURO 4 I had it was flat out incredible I just was never in a band that i could use the euro so it just sat there..I CAN NOT WAIT to get my rebop back with the HZs and the TP..

I used on the mid switch #2, boosted the mid up to about 2 o'clock, pushed in the bass boost switch and dialed in the mid highs on my Deluxe P. Big HUGE B string notes. Especially low D. Killed it. Even my LOB wanted me to hit that low B and usually he hates those notes. I thought that was a pretty big compliment as well.

Right on man. A lot of folks around here say stay away from the Ultra Low button. I disagree though. You can use it in a mix, you just have to add mids. If you dont you pretty much get burriied, but I dont dig the wooly tone of Ampegs without the Ultra low button enganged.

I posted settings similar to that earlier in the thread. I love a big crushing low end myself.

Here is the settings i usually rock again: Try them out and see how you feel.
Note: I run these settings with a Heritage SVT410HLF. Its a ton of lowend. It cuts through really well though believe it or not.

Gain: 12-2 oclock
Compressor 9 oclock (I used this because since i run Octave pedals and distortion it smoothes things out for the cab)
Ultra Low engaged - Ultra High not engaged
Bass 3 oclock (dependign on the room sometimes less)
Mids 2-3 oclock
Mid Selector mostly position 3, (sometimes 2 if the room makes the cab honky)
Treble 12-1 ocloock. On this one i sometimes roll back the treble if the sound gets to sizzly..

With a low B this sounds awesome.. big thunderous lows. My guitar player generally plays a 7 string Stephen Carpenter sig through an all tube Peavy. Some serious metal crunch. And with my settings we dont fight over frequencys. I sit right below him with my 5er. Its pretty sweet. I also dont get in the way of the kick...

Glad you found a tone you like with the 7pro. Ampeg to me is very very good tone.. it does seem like each amp has a sweet spot though. I dont to dig all the tones from ampegs. I can always find a spot I love though.

"Ultra Low" is a bit misleading. Since the greatest amount of tonal alteration is a -10bd cut @ 500hz. The only boost is +2db @ 40hz and you've got a lot more than that available with the Bass control. So it's kinda more like a "contour" button that gives the illusion of boosting the lows.

True I haven't gotten my 7PRO yet, but I did play through a SVP-Pro for a year, so I'm already acquainted with most of these controls.

I know right? Why do I need more 8Khz.

I like the treble @ 4Khz... Even better is the treble on my NS2. It's @ 2.8Khz. Now that'll add serious clarity to your tone.
