Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Seriously though, while its no SVT, this thing is the best sounding hybrid I've ever heard. With the ultra low engaged and the gain fully cranked it gives some seriously great old school punch with just a little breakup. I think it would be even closer loud and in the mix. At 15 pounds (my SVT I think is 100-110) its hard to beat! If I get the 212AV I will have almost halved the weigh of my big rig and will still have more volume than I know what to do with. Saving those benjamins.

I'm currently using my 7-Pro alot again for some time now and I'm wondering how far I can go with the gain and master. I'm running my amp through a 500W 410HLF Heritage cab. I think cranking the gain all the way up ain't a big deal. But I'm afraid if I crank the master too high i'm gonna blow my precious speakers...
Yep you're right. Use yr ears. If you hear your speakers complaining back off until they're happy again.

I'm curious... Will passive basses allow you to turn the gain all the way up (-15db off) without becoming completely unmusical on the 7PRO?
I'm not sure I completely understand your question but I will try to answer it. I use both a passive and active JBass and I have found with both basses that the gain sweet spot is around 2-230, anything higher than that starts to sound a little too wooly and unmusical IMO. I never use the -15db pad, I usually just back the volume off a bit on my active JBass. I'm sure it won't hurt the 7 Pro to dime gain, I just haven't found any good tones with the gain cranked higher than 2-230, YMMV though.

Yes, you did understand. I have a couple of pretty hot basses and have always engaged the input pad (if the amp has one) to prevent distortion. I set my amp to max the input level without distortion. When I want "Wool or Grind" in my tone I have pedals for that (B7K, VT Bass, etc...).
So, if you can dime the input on the amp without distortion, I don't think you're getting all the headroom the amp has to offer and should add a preamp before the input. IMHO
I have the same exact setup. HSVT410hlf and 7pro. You can run the gain full on and use the master for volume. You can take the cab pretty far without hurting it. Just keep in mind the tweeter will go before the speakers.
you can push the cab pretty hard though. Like others have said use your ears. The speakers will tell you if they have had enough.

Thursday or Friday, and can't really test it until Saturday at rehearsal. I'll be playing it through a GK 210MBE-II and a GK 115MBE-II.

OH GOODY..i think that will sound awesome wiht those cabs too..
Unfortunately my 7pro died months ago. Was sent back to Ampeg via the dealer under warranty and was subsequently lost between the two of them. I won't mention who the dealer is, but they are one of the biggest and the best around, they chased the repair up regularly and have been completely reliable in the past. That's my last purchase of Ampeg equipment unless they come up with a 5lb all tube head that is self healing. Hopefully Ampeg service is better worldwide than in the UK.

Thankfully the 7pro (rev c) BTW, has been replaced with something a bit different at no expense! The dealer came up good for me, eventually!
I just A/D'd my Rev C and SVT-CL and thought what fine reliable amps they have been.
Thought the Rev C sorted out all the issues?

FWIW, I sold a TH500 to get the 7-Pro.
Tone wise the Ampeg is more controllable and a better fit for me.

I preferred the SVT7 pro over the TH500. A bit more going on in the overall voicing of the Ampeg for me.

Played the 7Pro with my Modulus w/Bartolini electronics in it. I could not control the treble, the mids were way boomy and the bottom end was sluggish. Got to figure out how to work this out
