Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Played the 7Pro with my Modulus w/Bartolini electronics in it. I could not control the treble, the mids were way boomy and the bottom end was sluggish. Got to figure out how to work this out

I still think you should give GK a shot. I think they might be more what you are after. Ampeg to me has a pillowy low end that isnt super defined but feels great. Esp with a P bass. It captures the tone in my head for the most part. I will say that I dont ever play them with the ultra low not engaged. People say that all it does is boost 40hz by 2db and cut 500hz buy 10 db but I think its much more then that.

When i leave the button disengaged and cut the mids I dont lose the whooly tone i dont care for. As soon as i engage that ultra Low though, bam theres that sweet tone. I just add the mids back in to make sure i cut through.

Ive owned the GK MBfusion, it was very articulate and controlled, but it has a lot of upper register definition i didnt care for. You may prefer that tone. I always found myself completely turning the Hi Mid off. I just couldnt stand that eq point at all. I turned the low mid knob down quite a bit as well.

If you are looking for punch and clarity though, GK is one of the best answers for the buck out there. They are super loud, very punchy and really articulate. They seem like they may be more what you are looking for. Or maybe Mesa or Genz-benz..

One other option would be the EBS Reidmar. they are dirt cheap and super loud and very clean and clear, reminds me a lot of SWR. Check that one out too.

Good luck on your quest for tone. I have been there myself, it gets frustrating.

WHAT END OF MARCH they cant find a SVT7 pro in the country to give to you WTH??

I know right? I'm going through my local dealer/service center for this and that's what they're being told by their distributor.

Even Sweetwater and Musician's Friend are backordered. I wanted to go locally just in case I needed service. They are able to do the work in house. Plus I saved $100.

Could my Barts in my Modulus just really not work with my 7Pro?

Can't say that I've ever heard of any standard pickups (EMG, Bartolini, Aguilar, etc...) being incompatible with any Ampeg.

Do you have other basses that are working in the Ampeg?

Do you have any other amps that the Modulus will work with.

I don't mean in the past. I mean right now. Can you test other basses and/or other amps today?

Have all other factors in the signal path been verified or eliminated? Preamp battery? Guitar cord? Remove all pedals from the signal path? Things like that?

Sorry for the poor context. Amp is working. All basses in working order. Fender P-bass deluxe sounds great through the Ampeg, Modulus w/Barts sounds muddy and unclear. Modulus through my SWR Bass 750 sound incredible, Fender through SWR sounds high endy with a touch of breaking glass.. EQ reset to each bass. Parametric EQ switched off. All signal chain items removed. Bass-Amp-Speakers.. Same cord. Same strap. Same fingers/picks.. I just cannot find a good (IMHO to me) sound with my Ampeg and my Modulus'

After a brief affair with an SKB 2U rack, my SVT 7Pro found it's new home in a Carvin 2 space case. It looks AWESOME!

Follow up from post #805, sent my amp for a warranty repair, went to London then to somewhere in Europe, 8 weeks later its home, the only info on the sheet said "new amplifier fitted" plugged it in and it blew the fuse on the kettle lead, I've replaced that and all seems good......... phew, welcome home, worth the wait for the 7 pro :)

Are there people over here that use an external pre-amp in combination with their SVT7 ? Is it any useful aswell ?

I use a Darkglass B7K pedal but I don't bypass the pre in the 7 Pro if that's what you're asking. I cut the lows a bit and boost my mids at 800hz a little bit on the 7 pro and it sounds great. The B7K has EQ as well so I do the majority of my tone shaping that.

If you mean something like using a SansAmp RBI in your effects loop, that's up to you. That would let you set the 7pro pre to your usual sound and kick in the RBI when you want some real grind.

I'm like Vegan in that I have a B7K and a VTBD in a pedal board in front of the 7pro. (that is once I get the damn thing ;))
