I just realized you were specifically asking about midrange settings only.

That's cool, it makes more sense to list all settings anyway since each will affect the amp's overall tone. The mid knob may sound good or bad at a particular setting depending on how the other frequencies are set.

I've been messing around with my settings over the last couple days and I've found a pretty awesome tone with my PF115HE that cuts through and is still ballsy:
I edged the gain knob up a bit more than usual.
Bass 10 O'clock
Mid freq 4
Midrange 2 o'clock
Treble 1 o'clock

Since I have put a new pre in the bass, I will have to change all of my settings, but will not get to play with that till tomorrow before practice! But so far I am really loving the way the amp sounds with the H1203 cabs that I am using.

I've had my 7 pro for over 3 years now. Used a lot on a lot of gigs. It has performed flawlessly and sounds great. My 7 pro is a winner.

running mine into an Avatar 2x10 Neo with tweeter (almost off). I don't need stage volume, only so the gee-tar player next to me can hear, so we don't have to feed it in his wedge. The rest of us are IEM's.

I finally settled on the Heritage 410 and an very happy with it. It has the tone I wanted. It also has Hodgy mojo, look at the tag! He must have been wandering through the cab section that day.

I have been using the exact rig (except Zane Williams signed my tag). I think it sounds great. I supplied the backline with mine at a gig this past Saturday - it sounded awesome and didn't even break a sweat - for about 8 or 9 hours.

The more recent SVT 410hlf's are a lot better than the previous ones IMHO. They still go way low, but they're not nearly as muddy and they have decent mids.

And while I like both Zane and Hodgy, Hodgy plays in a band called Buttafuko, so he wins

I made an incredible deal on a second hand stack (2 years old) :

Amazing head with that cab! (I own a very nice TH500 too)
At first I thought I would keep my SVT-212AV without hesitation.
But after I EQed the SVT7 properly (less lows more mids) I'm pretty sure I couldn't live without the 410HLF presence anymore!
I've read so many things about this "supposed" boomy cab. It's not boomy when well EQed. The only cab that I heard with such a nice (Ampeg) and powerful tone was the 810.
I love it!
I can't wait to swap the stock valve with a Tung Sol and see if I can get and even better tone

The 410hlf muddiness seems to be confined to SLM-era cabs. Newer ones tone down the boominess quite a bit. Still goes quite low but not as overbearing as it used to be.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you can't go by the Rev# on the outside of the amp. You need to look inside on the main board for the Rev#. Correct?

Correct. They've been at Rev C00 for years. That means the board probably had some minor updates since then, because changing the revision number on the amp usually involves a much bigger change.

Dear SVT 7 Pro community. I have been researching a lot (almost too much?) on amps lately. I am in the market for a new one and I seem to desiring (from purely research/reading/youtube reasons) an SVT 7 Pro. The amp seems like it would be perfect for me but I keep reading about the cutting out issues it suffered. Now, I know a lot of these issues took place a few years (regarding dates of postings) but I am just here to inquire how often do they pop up? Are there newer issues with newer revisions?

The overall opinion is that most players seem very happy with this piece of equipment and I would like to join the ranks.

I still have to start reading about ohms/watts/the whole shebang but was wondering if anyone would mind sharing any experience they have with a cab. I love hearing about what people recommend but I also highly appreciate what NOT to go with. This sometimes helps to narrow down the playing field. I know this is a generalized situation but I am looking for a 12 inch speaker. Perhaps I should say I am looking for the generalized specs of a 12 inch. Something that handles the low but also gives the necessary punch and attack. I hear a head should match the cab... does that mean an Ampeg with an Ampeg? Is this where phasing issues arise or did I misplace that information? I noticed Ampeg does not make very many 12 inch speakers.. Usually a 115, 210 or 410, as far as I have seen, does this have to do with speaker dimension being a myth?

I see the SVT 7 Pro has one JJ 12ax7 tube. I tried to read, in general, about this tube and heard some people spoke condescendingly of it. I have no background in tubes and the such. Can a tube be swapped out for a different tube and if so, I imagine some sort of ratings being necessary to match tube to equipment? I also read that some companies put a tube in the pre amp section just so it can marketed as a Hybrid amp to appeal to a larger market. Does one tube vs no tube make a difference? (I would think so from such a positive response on this product - Must be due the type of tube being used).

I do not have a specific sound I want to achieve in mind... I unfortunately like too many bass sounds but do not have one to call my own (which I am hoping to change with this unit). Also, before I actually try and test out gear, I like to learn as much about them as possible. That way when I go into a store, I know the scoop and can ask better questions and know what I am looking for - this is my attempt at gaining more knowledge. *I am sure there is a lot of info here on TB ( I have read a lot) but my brain is currently fried from weeks of searching.... So I am taking a shortcut here.*

I can't speak for everyone but I have had mine for over a year now and never experienced a cutting out issue on several gigs and rehearsals. I think the issues have been ironed out and folks who had the issues got them taken care of by Ampeg. I wouldn't worry about it.

Regarding the tube, preamp tubes are less of an issue to change than power tubes. You don't have to re-bias the amp for different preamp tubes. Not a big deal. However, preamp tubes last much much longer than power tubes, so you won't need to change it for a few years at least. If you want to change it for a different response that's fine, just swap it for something else. No other steps needed. FWIW, I am still using the stock tube and the amp sounds great.

Don't overthink this. If you like the tone of Ampegs and the power of the 7Pro meets your requirements, then grab one. Their customer support is very good and the problems with reliability seem like a distant memory at this point. I love mine and have no issues recommending them.

Great to hear! That made me feel confident in the product. I have spoken with sales people on this and have been discouraged due to it eventually crapping out. I take everything with a grain of salt. I will definitely be testing it out, along with the PF 500 and maybe some others. Thanks!
