Ampeg SVT 7 Pro Club

Better to fix the source of the problem (hopefully), than just churn through replacing bad stuff with more of the same.
That's an interesting change in the chip. My Rev G has a 1a265. Comparing these two on their data sheet gives a Rds of 3ohms for the 1a265 and 0.9ohms for the 2a265. I know very little about the significance of these numbers, but a Google search gave this explanation of Rds:
"Rds means "Resistance(drain-to-source)", the drain being where the current goes to and the source being where it is coming from.
Having a lower Rds basically means that less power is going to be lost across the MOSFET as per ohms law and will thus produce slightly less heat as a by-product of the MOSFET."
The reduction in heat with the 2a265 makes sense, especially in light of post #1448 by ulynch with his heatsink.

Ok 7 pro sounded great last night no glitches and the golden lion is a great tube
Received my SVT 7Pro yesterday!!! FedEx scared me a little, all day the tracking site said it would be delivered yesterday then around 4PM the delivery date changed to N/A. I was so disappointed but around 730 I hear the door know and FedEx is standing at my door with a big box for me.
I ordered it from American Musical Supply as one of the scratch and dent specials for $599. It was packaged really well in three different boxes and foam protection. Upon removal, I do not notice many scratch and dents. A couple minor nicks on the faceplate, only visible from close up and a couple of very small scratches on top that are again, only visible from up close. Revision sticker says C00.
Plugged in the thing sounds great. It's going to take some tweaking to get it where I want it but I love the headroom, the ultra hi and lo buttons, and the tubey grind when the gain is up. I did get scared the first time I turned it on and it took about 5 seconds before the green light kicked on and it came alive. Same thing again when I fired it up today, but if I turn it off then turn it back on it comes alive in less time, maybe 3 seconds or so. Is this how all of yours work too? Another thing I notice is when the mid control is either max boosted or max cut and I change the mid freq selector, I get some scratchy noise as I turn it. It the mids are straight up or +/-3 or so it doesn't happen. Probably normal but being as it is a scratch and dent I am being overly critical.

It is the preamp tube warming up!
Sad, sad news for my new SVT-7. Not even 3 songs into to band rehearsal it died on me 
In the middle of playing it basically shut off. Green light went out and no more sound. I flipped the switch off and back on and it booted up, but only for about 10 minutes before it died permanently. I will call AMS in the morning and see about returning it. I'd like to keep trying it because I really loved the sounds I was getting but I am not sure if I live knowing of it's unreliability.
I don't know what to get now. The PF800 seems like a good option but I would like something with tubes. Everything else Ampeg has might be out of my price range. Although it doesn't have tubes, I may try the Tech-21 VT500 when that comes out.

Sorry to hear that! I am dedicating mine to just practice now.. I am going tube amps.. eventually, I will move my Seven Pro off to something else, I don't like how bright the amp is..
I haven't played many amps but the TH500 is one I was contemplating before this purchase. How would you compare it to the SVT-7 sound-wise?
Not to be cruel, but any amp that works sounds better than one that won't. Go out a try some different models and brands. "Tube" doesn't always mean the best sound.
Of all the post I have seen and read from you B String, I have to say that I have not seen any that were "cruel"!
You are absolutely right, that is why I am returning this one and I will not be getting another. You are right about tubes too. I may not even end up getting one that has any. I will try to find the best fit for my sound needs and budget.
The TH500 is quite different to the 7 pro, but I was able to get a great sound outta the Aggy straight away. Probably the only thing the Aggy won't do is the really GLASSY top end that many amps will give you if used with a cab with a tweeter in it. Even with a tweeter the Aggy won't do that. It's thing is fat punchy bass. The DRIVE control, if turned up, tightens up both lows and highs and for me, gives you the sound of a sealed tweeter-less cab.
I love it. And I use all tube amps mainly. The Aggy has no tubes at all but gets 98% of the all tube sound. ..imo of course
