If you do an A/B test, you'd be better served to run the cab full range (mono) with both heads (not at the same time, of course). Just be sure to observe proper protocol with regard go connecting and disconnecting a tube head (in other words, make sure the Fender is connected to the cab before you turn it on, and then turn the Fender off before you disconnect the cab).

well, I'm not that much into A/B tsting the GK and the Bassman.

the ideal situation for me would be if I can use both heads simultaneously.
because I used Bassman for 10 years and LOVE its tube sound.
But, had to go for something more powerful because Bassman was all middle with my 412 fender cab.

so, I'm pretty sure I will miss the tube warmth in using only GK... know what I mean?:)

Well, you should be able to use both heads, if you use the dual input jacks.

But you have at least tried the cab in full-range mode with both of your heads, right? Not at the same time, of course.

I talked with our resident Ampeg Guru Jimmy and he said what he said above. I have a '08 Vietpeg, plywood and it's great. I also have a '08 USApeg that's made of plywood. They're great. Same speakers.

I also had a old 410 and a 118 OSB and the bottom 4 to 6 inches of those two cabinets were in my old basement when we got water. The chipboard started to weaken, the tolex started peeling off and...this is no BS...mushrooms started growing out of the particle board.

So I would break the mushrooms off and eat th.....no I didn't do that...but I did break them off they'd grow back and back and back till they just stopped.

But the speakers worked fine for years.

I used to push an 810 with a 100w tube head...a V4B. It was awesome. I'm thinking you just don't have the right EQ for it. Or maybe the right amp. Bassmans have the Fender tone stack, which can put out a whole lot of low end, using up valuable wattage that could be used elsewhere. Plus their transformers aren't as big as Ampegs so they start breaking up earlier on bass. But there's no reason it shouldn't work otherwise.

Bassman + my old Fender 412 200W cab was LOUDER than Bassman + Ampeg 810.

so I concluded the Bassman is usrely not strong enough for it.
maybe I'm wrong.

the tone was OK, it just lacked power.

Funny, my Bassman shakes the ground paired with my Ampeg 810. It's just stupidly, unbearably loud. Are you sure yours is in good working order? Perhaps take it to a tech for a check-up?

ampeg should just make the heritage line and dump the overseas products.they could make everything here,i would rather be on a waiting list for one than to buy the chinese
ones.if ampeg wants to fly the badge on the overseas made ampegs they should at least drop the prices more.they do not compare to american craftsmenship.they use
cheaper everything and command top dollar.really shouldnt even be comparing them.they are not the same

I have one made in April of 2000, in my experience, it's always sounded quite bright. So, I'm not sure when in 2000 the darker sounding cabs started. Mine is made of OSB for sure. Could it be some kind of speaker construction change that caused the "darker" sounding cabs?
