My new SVT-8Pro came yesterday. WOW!! Tons of power. Great tone. Did I say GREAT tone. I'll attach some pics. I've used a SVT-4Pro for about 10 years now along with an Eden 410XLT. I have both heads set up with 2 Eden cabs, so I'm ready to let the two go at it. I'll give the full report soon!

Subscribed too.

I agree- great tone. I'm a BIG fan of Ampeg Pro series heads.
And yes, IMO they do get the classic SVT sound due to the multiple pre amp and driver tubes, largely responsible for shaping the tone.

I have Love for my 3-PRO; interesting to hear what you get out of the "big brothers" of the series.

Have fun!

Hmm so the 8-Pro is somewhat like the 3-Pro, but more powerful? I know that my old 4-Pro never really got dirty, while the 3-Pros I tried had a bit more of an SVT sound. Interesting.

From what I understand:

The 6-Pro is more like the 3-Pro, but more powerful. The 8-Pro is like the SVP-CL with a poweramp... It's the classic preamp, not the SVP-Pro type

Is that correct?

FYI: From Ampeg's Site.....

When only the best will do, turn to the SVT-8PRO for ultimate power and massive Ampeg tone. The SVT-8PRO combines our vintage SVP-CL preamp with a 2500-Watt Solid-State power amp for Earth-shaking bass that just won’t quit. Loaded with professional features throughout, the SVT-8PRO was designed for the most demanding player and the most demanding of gigs.

An outstanding feature, unique to the SVT-8PRO, is its speaker emulation circuitry, which allows players to dial in classic SVT overdriven tones at any volume level. This means you can get all the crunch and grind of an SVT pushed to the limit, but at a volume level that won’t set off local seismic detectors.

Our 5-position Ultra Low selector gives you low frequency tone-sculpting capability like never before. From the fattest low-end to tight, highly articulated punch, the choice is yours. And the built-in DI can patch you right into the front of house, although you probably won’t need it! Bottom line: SVT tone at concert volume levels, in a lightweight 23-pound package.
