I don't care how it good it sounds, I won't buy one or any other ampeg gear not made in the USA. Im sick of these maximize profits lets ship everything off to asia and screw american workers mindset of coporations these days. Don't know about you, but one of the major selling points of Ampeg gear was that it was made in America and employing Americans. I could bite the bullet and pay a little more for that--but I don't see their price points going down. And i'm sure their paying the workers the equivalent of 5 cents an hour with no health benefits or union protection. :spit:


I hope this move to asia comes back and bites them in the A**

Apologies to Kelly and the other mods for extending a "where made" posting, but I'm really trying to correct a mis-understanding.

As a point of information, all the SVT-8PRO now for sale are from the USA production.

Ditto for SVT-VR, SVT-CL etc

In two or three months, maybe sooner, according to what I knew when I left Ampeg, the Vietnamese ones should appear.

We'll see how that all works out. I was only peripherally involved with checking the Vietnamese units. I do know that some were built quite well, and that some others had issues, but nothing that can't be fixed by communication.

But I WAS involved with the 8PRO....While we were all still there, at the end of May, the sample Vietnamese 8PROs still had not come in for evaluation, so they should not be in production for some time. At least 2 or 3 months, probably a bit longer.

I'd expect a shortage of them for a while as the US ones sell through. A substantial number also went to endorsers.

I don't mean to derail this thread, but yanno, quality concerns aside...I hate to hear another American company like Ampeg has moved off shore...Vietnamese built Ampeg amps may be a good quality product as they get the bugs worked out...who knows...But I know many people (including myself) that have lost jobs with domestic companies because they have downsized their American presence and moved production, design, tech support, etc...overseas. This just plain sucks, and really worries me that The USA is painting itself in a corner...

You have to be one of the best opinions out there about Ampeg moving out of USA. With all respect to the mods, and I know that this thread shouldn0t be touched, this has to be heard. I'm not even American, I'm Mexican (funny isn't it?), but it doesn't really matters if they are well done or not... It's the loss of what has been grown into a country. Almost a tradition.

Anyone care to post the eq frequencies of the svt-8, i.e the bass,mid,treble and both mid,bass eq selectors..........theres nothing on the Ampeg site, no manuals anymore. Hell, theres not even an email for support.....I love Ampeg stuff, but i think they are slowly ****ing themelves big time!

Just got a new SVT8-pro from FedEx today. It's made in the USA!! I've only had about 15 minutes with it.. but so far.. so good. Great tone.. love the ability to get the overdriven tone at any volume.. It's loud.. running it through two Berg HT115's. However; I don't get quite the same feeling of ultimate horsepower I remember from something like the DB750 I used to have. I do feel like it's just as strong as say my QSC PLX2 amp I was running at 900 watts per channel into the Bergs. I also feel like I have a lot more power than I did with the Thunderfunk TF550B.. of course.. I should feel that way. So far.. I think it's the best lightweight digital amp I've played. The tone is RICH with all the tubey goodness harmonics.

Ampeg $1000.00 plus, Carvin $700.00 EZ Do they sound like a Ampeg NO, but they do sound good. When you are doing a gig, and u come through the pa do you really have that much control over your sound, I may be wrong, but I'd say no, you do have a lil, but thats is with your bass.
P.S Color me wrong

Referencing another thread: you have complete control of how you sound to your audiance if you have a 2500 watt ampeg and 4 810's. Thats like having everyone at ear point. "Dance or I will make your ears bleed"
But really I never liked carvin much.

'tis true to some degree. However; most of the time I'm without PA support. (Except at church, then I don't take anything but my Skjold and DI box).

And.. with PA support, it also depends on whether or not your sending a wet or dry signal to the PA. As long as you aren't going crazy with the bass knob.. a lot of sound guys don't mind a wet signal. So, the amp still plays a role in your tone.

Thanx for this bit of info, I was unaware of this I always thought You lost control of your sound when you went DI
