Ampeg SVT-II appreciation thread

I Just got my SVTII back from the shop. The tech was able to fix the transformer and replaced some blown resistors and 3 power tubes.

I had this head plugged into a 4x10 8 ohm cab. This was most likely the reason for my troubles. Growing up in a world of FET's had me thinking 8 ohm loads on a 4 ohm setting was safe. Now I know never to do this again. Rather then sell the cab, should I rewire it for 2 ohms?

Got my SVT yesterday.. Will get some pic sup soon, but not like you guys dont know what they look like. :)

Mine doesn't have the bias info printed inside.... Had the top and bottom covers off..

Can anyone pass along that info? I took some measurements at the test points and also some temp mesaurments with my Raytek minigun....

no i dont remember the positions...but i can look and or find out for you...i can tell you this...the clean headroom is wonderful...full sounding...and stays clean for a long time...a lot longer than before...and i havent noticed any drop off in overall power...esp. with active basses...

:help: back in January svtscruggs mentioned that, SRV's former tech had switched some 12AU7 tubes in for some 12AX7 tubes on his SVT-II.

Could you publish to this thread those positions where the tubes were switched? Thanks, I would like to try this.

I can't keep both cabs so this may be goodbye to the old 810 :bawl:

Ken, gig that NV before you decide to dump it or not. It FLOORS the SVT in every way.

Derail... it was nice meeting you the other day. Hope you had a good drive home!

Oh there's no question, I'm keeping the Berg. I just have to let go of ole faithful... the sadness will end at my first load-in/load-out.

That was a lot of driving -- 6 hours each way -- but definitely well worth the trip! And it was great meeting you guys.

OT: I have never in my life seen so much road kill as I did on the I-69/I-96 on the way to meet you. At one point I drove through a stretch of road that was *completely* covered in blood (the remains of the deer were on both sides of the road).

....of a 90's SLM SVT 2 Pro! Awesome head (easier to carry v. my CL, but still too damn heavy, oh well.)!!!! For 750. out the door I couldn't pass it up; thanx Joel! I tested it back to back w/my CL just for tone comparisions, and well, I guess I'm back to luggin heavy heads around again :crying: (lately have been gig'n w/ my svt3 and usually leave my CL at home/practice) !!!!!!!!

Well one question and one coment:

1. Definately has more tonal options. I REALLY dig the drive control and noted that all the way to the left gets me an exact CL tone (but w/one more preamp tube added to the mix)when I want it....but all the way right opens me up to a bunch of other possibilities....!!!!

2. What's the polarity switch, like a ground lift? I noticed it's a rocker type and didn't know what the 'middle' position was, or if I should even have it in the middle(?).
