Ampeg SVT Micro Stack

Ok. This to me is a major issue with this amp. I used it last night with the DI and the DI is waaaaaaaaay too hot. Even with the gain all of the way down on our board I couldn't turn the Micro AV head gain past 25% which killed my stage tone and volume. I don't like mic'ing and like a good DI sound.
This should have REALLY had an extra DI control, it's almost unusable.

ya, i found the same thing as well. fortunately i'm a mic-er and i don't play loud, but i have used the di on a gig and i had to keep it around 10:00. it would definitely benefit from some pre/post action as well as a level control.
OK. Ampeg tech support is awesome. I actually talked to someone that
A. Actually uses the product.
B. Knew exactly what I was talking about
C. Offered a couple good solutions
D. Gave some cool recommendations
For those that have a hard time hearing yourself on stage:
He said if you run one cab you want it at LEAST 10 feet away from you because of the waveform they bloom at about 10 feet. Also have it up off the floor a bit on a riser. His example was to use the amp as kind of a sidefill for the band if you mic it or run DI and everyone can hear it better.
Also MAKE sure you run the DI into a channel with a -20 to 40 gain structure and not mic level 0-60 gain structure.
It was great actually talking to someone that knows the product and didn't read from a script.

I played a gig today where the backline was supplied and i got to use an Ampeg BX300, my first ampeg experience and it was awesome! I literally dialled in what i wanted before turning it on and when the power button was hit, i got exactly what i wanted.
I currently run a Laney R4H and its about 8-10 years old (I got it new) and whilst its never failed me, the ampeg sound...oooooh it was good.
I often play festivals, club and pub gigs, crowds ranging from 30 - 1200 people. Im looking at possibly the Ampeg Micro SVT, but would it be enough? I would be running it through a Laney 1X15 but also have a 4x10 if needed too (I generally use that for my other band which I would also use the Ampeg for)

A Micro VR could possibly be enough for you. It's more than enough for me. But the PF500 would be more of a sure thing and only a little bit more money than the Micro VR.

What sort of gigs do you play? Is it really quite limited overall soundwise? Im really looking for the same amount of power (200w like my Laney) but a more....lightweight option.

I do a few different gigs, but mostly 50's-60's-70's rock/pop/dance music. The Micro VR isnt limited at all tonally IMHO, but it is a 200w amp at 4 ohms and 150w at 8, so it's not the loudest amp ever made. Still love mine, though. It might work for you. There's just no way to tell how loud you need to be to hang in with your band.

Thanks for your reply. The main band currently is kind of a 'brass fueled rock' affair. We have trumpets, keys etc... and im using my current laney for that, and only need to push the gain to about 4 and the volumne to about 5-6 so if the Ampeg is the same wattage it should be similar....I assume?

For me, in that circumstance, the head and one cab weren't sufficient, but, the head with two cabs worked great!
I know most of you have moved on to the new, trendy PF stuff 
. Just wanted to say how much this little amp RAWKS with an Ampeg 810!
Gets loud and great tone. 4 ohms gets the most from the amp and all the those speakers moves a lot of air.
I could gig with this if didn't look so puny sitting on the cab . . .

Durn it. I'm not having good fortune with ampeg. I found a deal on the microstack and I opened up the box today.
Moisture in the packaging. Add that to the clipping problems with the PF500 and it looks like I'm going ampegless.
But don't feel sorry for me. The equipment I'm left with is very satisfying.

Double boxed. Both boxes fine. Moisture was inside plastic wrapping, along with two packs of desiccant that are saturated.
