Ampeg SVT610HLF.

Please, remember that my sound is very sharp and cutting edge, I boost treble, add some bass and don't cut mids...

Also my head has four knobs:

-Bottom: to extend low frequency range --> I put it at minimum.
-Contour: boost lows and highs while cutting mids --> almost minimum too.
-Growl: boosts lows-mids --> little more than 3/4
-Attack: boosts presence --> maximum.

I don't want more bass, I'm looking for more presence, better bass response and better power management. That's why I thought of a 6x10, better presence, little more powerful that the head, and I suposse, better bass management as it has 2 more loudspeakers and I'mk not looking for a bassy sound.

Hey Gents,

The speakers in the SVT610HLF are 6 ohms each. And yes, each 210 compartment is ported all the way through to the external ports on the bottom. Looking at the wiring diagram, the cabinet is wired in series parallel but per each side. Each side of three is wired in parallel and then wired to the other side in series giving you the 4 ohm load.

Hope this dispels any "myths"

Everything this man says is true.

To the op, not many of us have experience playing that low so have no idea how the cab would respond, 'lots of presence' is a good way to decribe it though, you might actually have to stop cranking your mids a tad with this cab because it already has lots of low mids.

My apologies for misinformation! I recall reading this specifically in response to a post someone had made complaining about the bottom drivers in a 6x10 popping all the time. I can't think of where it was so thanks for the correction.

Still, I stand by the statement that this cabinet will blow drivers left and right if you put a loud low G through it :)

It does sound GREAT with a 4 string, and particularly with the Ampeg tube heads. I love the V4BH through it especially.

I've played the 6x10hlf for almost 6 years and I love it. Mind you I rarely go lower then C as far as tuning and more often then not I'm just tuned down to D but I've have had no issues whatsoever with this cab other then for want of a decent all tube head to match up with it.

I had an SVT610-HLF for a little while, and was thoroughly unimpressed - if pushed with any significant lows, it was relatively easy to make it fart out... I currently have a Mesa Powerhouse 610 and an SVT410-HLF - both of which will handle lows WAY better than the SVT610-HLF... I've also had extensive experience with the SVT810e, which can handle being pushed harder than the 610-HLF...

Regarding the OP - I'd recommend the Powerhouse 610, or a pair of the SVT410-HLFs... Another alternative would be the Genz Uber series cabs...

Had I continued to use the 610-HLF, I have no doubt I would've blown some drivers eventually... I play both 4 strings and 5 strings, and play fairly loud - but not rediculously so...

Anyways, that's how I see it - based on my actual experiences with those cabs...

Interesting read. I should receive my 610hlf by friday, if nothing goes wrong with the shipping. I'll have it paired with a Hartke LH500. I play a 5-string, with most of the lowest notes in our songs being low D, sometimes down to C or C#. It'll be interesting to see how this cab holds out for my use. It won't be pushed to it's limits, a sensible drummer and 2 guitarists who actually want to hear the band as a whole instead of just their own playing... :D I would call it luxury :)

...like mentioned previously, I too remember that cab cutaway showing shelves on the two upper pairs and ports under the final lower pair, thus making it a so-called 'partially ported' cab (?).

One issue that I think is worth considering is weather you like a percieved tightness in your low b. I play exclusively 5-strings, and have gravitated toward sealed drivers that don't actually go below 40Hz or so in order to get an 'attenuated' sound in the lower registers. That way, I minimize the percieved boominess on stage and don't have to cut bass EQ from my tone, if that makes sense.

Just another thought...

I've had my 610 for about three years and I do sometimes play ridiculously loud. Like outside concerts with stupid loud guitars. Granted, I play a 4 string but dang, loud. I've never had it fart or distort or breakup or any of that crap. Like the poster said before, haters probably have never lived with one of these gems. It gets down low and fat, then slaps up top too. I've had lots of cabs, this is by far the best.

The SVT 610hlf is a decent product, but I do not know how much more low end you are expecting out of two more 10" speakers. I feel you are better off getting another one of the Warwick 410's you have. Two 410's of what you already like will probably do the trick. If you want more low end than that, I think you will create WAYYYY too much trouble with sound guys at shows. Your bass tone will have too much low end along with too much volume at some point.
