Ampeg V4 - 4x12 Cabinet - Speaker Suggestions

I couldn't find a good deal on a V4 cab so I did the deed to a seemingly well made VOX 4x12. --A smaller enclosure than the V4 (& lighter!) so I did just two Basslite 2012's & sealed the other two holes. In the meantime the V2 cab came to me & I've been loving / rocking that even though it's ported :bassist:

The sealed vibe IS awesome though, I agree, & I was on that sealed trajectory for sure but the V2 4x12 does kick ass the way I've spiffed her up, and has tided me over nicely but I will still someday have a V4 cab.

Here are some pics of my VOX sealed 4x12 cab with two Eminence Basslite 2012 8ohm speakers wired in parallel to make for a 4ohm cab. I originally had two Eminence Deltalite II 2512's in there but the Basslites sound warmer & "bassier" in this Vox application... go figure, huh? Keep mind & options open, right fellas?

I know this is an older thread but thought I'd resurect it!

I have an empty V4 cab in pretty good shape I think I'm going to put some speakers in (either the Deltalite 2512 II or the s2012s). Any recommendations as to where to get the mounting screws?

Also, I'm leaning towards 4 of the Deltalites in 4ohms as I'll mostly be running my SVT through it, sometimes my V4-b. I heard John Kallas's setup once & it sounded simply great. I know you've been living with your individual setups for a while now so thought I'd see
if any of you have specific recommendations for or against either speaker make & quantity of said speakers (2 or 4). I'm just unsure of what I want to do at this point but need to make my mind up pretty soon. I love the idea of a smaller cab sounding similar to the 810 & SVT pairing.

Thanks all! -john

BLAST: I actually lean towards the Basslites. I only have two 2512's but 6 2012's. Much cheaper than the Deltalites too. I finally DID get a V4 cab but I'm not digging it as much as John K & some of the other guys on here. I like my V2, SVT 810 & the Vox cabs better. The V4 looks awesome though and a great 2nd cab when paired w/ the V2.

Hey Jimmy Riot, what is it you are not living if I can ask compared to your SVT cab? What style of bass tones & music do you prefer &play. Thanks for the input.

Hi Blast, probably too late for my response, sorry, but
To me the V4 4x12 just sounded smaller. However, I never had 4 of the same speaker in there; I had 2 Basslites and two 2512. Now I have 2 basslites and two of the original Eminence squaremags. I padded the cab well but it didn't have the punch, size or warmth of the 8x10, or the clarity of my oversized V2 4x12 ported cab. The tone I go for with this sort of thing is a clear, warm but punchy low-mid sound, without much high-end click clack. Black Crowes, Sam & Dave, Aretha Franklin type tone.

I'm restoring a V4 cab and am fixing to order 4 s2012's for it. Any reason I shouldn't wire it 2ohms instead of 8? Any issues or benefits to running the V4B in 2ohm?

With 2ohms you can't go any lower... You can't wire it for 4 ohms, but if you did 8ohms then if you paired up with another 8ohm cab you could set your V4 switch to 4ohms. John_K likes to put a switch on his cabs so he can go from 2 to 8.

Bumpin an old thread because it has some good info and thought this may be a good place to ask.....

If there is no logo badge, what can we look for to guess a mfg year?

This one has a small alum badge "nailed?" To the back with a round, (3) screw plate holding a 1/4" jack.... No numbers on the plate, just ampeg v4 8 ohm... No paper serial tag inside either....

This one came with (2) Eminence 12442 round magnets and (2) Eminence 12442 square magnets... Going to sell those and pick up some 2512's one day....

Oh and the guy listed it on CL weeks ago.. But I waited and got it for $100... :hyper:

I cant really find the answer anywhere so Ill bring this back from the dead. Im running An SVT VR with my V4 Cab. trying to figure out what speakers to throw in it. Will the 2012s hold up with the svt power? cant afford the 2512s at the moment. other Ideas was the Delta or Beta 12a. not sure what one to pick. Thanks!

2012's will handle it, no problem.
