Ampeg V4 Club

Ya, everybody loves to say that, then they complain about the prices being too high and they don't buy.

BTW, they do have an American SVT, and since the SVT is the most popular tube bass amp in the world, I doubt they're going to change it to a V4 preamp, especially since if you want it to sound like a V4, all you have to do is move a couple knobs.

unfortinately this is the case right here.

by next spring im planning on a reeves 400 or electric 200 or custom ? amp so price point isnt really an issue.

Hey, dudes! I'm brand spanking new to TB. Well, been a lurker for a while just to get good reviews and advice. But I just wanted to say, hey, and to get in on this V4/V4B club action! I just bought my first one last night. And she's a beauty!

Someone retolexed her in tweed, which I kinda think is awesome. That's what really sold me on it. And she sounds scrumptious through my Willis 6x10.

Absolutely! Nothing beats that combination, except an early SVT if - and only if - you need more power. I agree with Jimmy that you can get the same tone using an SVT rig, just with much more headroom. But still it would be fun to see if a new V-4B design can beat the vintage amps in any way. I doubt it, for getting the same tone just means using similar heavy materials for amps and cabs as those in the old days, but I'm ready to acknowledge a new truth...

It would be fun to see JvN. For me, the new V4B would have to have the classic V4B tone as opposed to the version that was out a few years ago.

The 100 watts would be perfect for the gigs I do.

Aaaah... finally got my '71 baby back from a not-so-fast tech. Quickly connected to the odd SWR 15" at the rehearsal studio... Man! I missed her. Me and the band got our sound back. First time I heard a V-4B through a 15", too - always having used an SVT 810. Not bad at all! Makes me think again of my old wish of an Ampeg 2x15 cab. Reread a few threads mentioning these cabs. Do I understand it correctly that there was another closed 2x15 cab in Ampeg history besides the original V-4B cab? So far, I only know Fliptops make 'em new these days.

Ampeg also made the B-25B at about the same time, which is a more conventional cab than the V-4B. More recently, ampeg has released the SVT-215E.
