Hello all. Here is a photo of my V4/SVT410e.

I want to give a tip to those of you that do not already know - the '80's SVT 410e and SVT18e were wider and less deep then the newer models (mine is an '87).

They look and sound great with a V4 - with guitar or bass.

I used the modern A.V. grill cloth and some satin black spray paint to make the grill match.

There is one on Ebay right now if you are in the Cleveland, Georgia(?) area (the seller states he/she won't ship)http://www.ebay.com/itm/180999069497?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649:.

Cool, I'll be keeping my eyes pealed for one of those wider '80's SVT 410e's,
cause I dont usually dig my heads overhanging the cab either

Heres a pic of my V4 on my 90's SVT-18E cab placed sidways:

(I've currently got a 15" speaker in this cab.

And yes, I really ought'a clean some of that '1970's righteousness' from around my V4's knob area...
;)

How much would you guys pay for a master volume VT-22 that is in really excellent shape. Still in combo form. Let's assume it has not been recapped. Let's assume you are very determined to get one of these V-Ampegs. How much would be too much to pay? I'd probably need to chop it down to a head, anyway. Two fifteens probably wouldn't fit into the combo cab. ( wink )

I have gotten a couple of nice VT-22's for $400 - $500.

I am with Jimmy though - I would not chop it. It is not that much more trouble to just build a headbox from scratch - then you can still use the 212 for guitar or reverse the conversion in the future.

The first cabinet that I used with my old V4B - before I got the SVT cab - was a B40. Didn't have the impact of the SVT cab of course, but I recall it sounded pretty darn good. Also, it matched up width wise with the head.

Anybody using a B40?

Yup! I love the B-40 with the V-4B. :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

Eric, you got me thinking seeing your V4 + sideways SVT18E.

So I checked on the Ampeg website, and sure enough, the current SVT410HE has almost the exact same dimensions as my '87 - turned on IT's side.

Mmm... Interesting!
Maybe back in 87, they were still concerned with offering a cab that would fit the width of a vintage V4/V4b.
But now, want to achieve that extra height & just matching the width of an SVT...

I'm also kinda thinking that cabs of this basic dimension might make the most efficient use of 4x8" sheets of plywood?

Fliptops sells new head-box's you could buy, they seem to look nice in the pics but they're pretty exspencive...

Instead of chopping that VT-22 combo, I know you'd be pleasantly surprised at the reasonable cost/very-high quality workmanship of buying a new V4-headbox from this guy:--> http://www.talkbass.com/forum/member.php?u=195918

You'd also find he's very honest/trustworthy, and one of the most knowledgeable guys (about ampegs) here on this forum
