Ampeg V4 Club

Here's mine. Had it since the mid 80's.

That's a 70s B410...

I ran one of those for a while with my V4. Picked it up fairly cheap. The original speakers weren't much to write home about, eventually replaced them with some newer eminence drivers. Sold that cab when I got my 72 8x10. It was pretty close to half of the old flatback 8x10, wide but thin. Looked huge in comparison to most modern 4x10 cabs, but it was thinner front to back. The important thing (to me) was that the V4 didn't overhang on the sides ;).

I think this is the only pic I still have of that cab that doesn't have my ugly mug in front of it. I eventually got a fliptops replacement grill and caster cart for easier movement and better aesthetics.

No pics available just now, but I'll put in with two V4-b's. One white toggles all around (mid 70's). The other has three metal toggles for on, off, polarity, and black for tone (earlier mid 70s?). Love em both!

Number please?

I'm in. I have a mid 70's V4B. It is the best sounding amp I have ever owned. I am currently running it through a 4x10 hlf and it's pretty amazing how loud it can get for a 100w head.

I'm thinking of getting a different cab to pair with it. I like the hlf, but I want to see how the v4 sounds with a more articulate cab. The two I am considering are an swr goliath 4x10 or the classic 8x10e. My only concern with the 8x10 is whether or not that 100 watts could really drive it. I'll get a pick posted of mine sometime tomorrow.

I had a bunch of these- ok, just 3, and a couple SVT's, and a V2- and they sure needed repaired a lot. I think in part this was because I had too many, and they tended to sit around unused and no electronics really like that. I think if I had one I used steadily it would have been happy.

Then I sold the SVT's for a massive 440 watt tube power amp, clean and flat from 10 hz to 40,000 hz! I haven't looked back...

Still I hope I'm eligible for an *honorary* membership.

Well, if they needed a lot of repair, I don't know. I'd bet they've been around and will continue to be a lot longer than would be expected for any/most modern electronics.

And Ted, what was the 400 watt monster?

If you look back at the picture you'll see my V4b sitting on top of my SWR Goliath II. I've been thing of selling them but dang they sound good together.

A V4B through an 8x10 is a wonderful thing.

AFAIK, unless you like a dirty sound and want some of the dirt coming from overdriving your cab, "the larger the cab and/or the greater the total cone area, the higher the sensitivity and thus the LESS the amount of power you need to reach gig SPL".

Oh man, a cool Ampeg club I can't join anymore. But from 1978-89, I was a member.

73 V4B/SVT 810 I bought from my cousin's ex-husband for $500. Dogged that amp for the next 11 years or so. Never once let me down on a gig. I think I might have had to change one tube in it the whole time I had it.

Then this band I was in at the time had a 2-week gig at this local bar, and we ended our first week and we left our stuff there on our days off, and the next morning the place burns to the ground due to a wiring short and everything in the bar was reduced to rubble. We were never able to collect insurance, either. Thank God for student loans, that's all I can say!

Oh man, that sucks that that happened. We give previous owners honorary member numbers, so you get #16.
